I'm working on updating my physical portfolio (I have a job interview on Thursday) and I was looking through all of the logo designs I've created, and here's what I thought were my best. Considering I think these are my top ones, I thought it would help me to get some critiques on them for future logo designs. I know I've broken some rules on a couple of them (drop shadow, and gradients) but I'd like to know what you guys have to say.
I'm not going to say what each one was exactly for, I would hope you can get the idea from the design/typography.
Let's see how it goes....Thx a bunch in advance =)

The fonts in 5 and 9...what is that? It looks like avant garde w/ modified angles on V's/Y's/A's etc, but I've seen them in quite a few places that I don't think it's just a modded version of that font. Looks very iso50'ish. That's a good thing.
it's exactly avant garde modified, I haven't found a pre-made version of that font/style unfortunately. Thanks.

these look great. I really love your style. the only thing i dont like is the gradients. Maybe its just me but im anti-gradient in logos.
You're also very anti-sarif... which I am too. I Have nothing against sarif fonts, I just tend to use san sarif... theyre so much cleaner. You have a definate style, yet some of your logos look more classic (ie 4) and others have a retro style to them (ie 2 and 7)
Nice work :)

You show the process of making one. Include your sketches and then your preliminary and explain the process. They want to see how you got there not just where you ended up.
I won't include my sketches, because 1. I don't want to scan them in for logos that are already complete and in use, and 2. Because I don't exactly keep a sketchbook persay, I only sketch my initial idea, and then go to the computer.
BUT if you want to see different options I created for some of these MyKnock, go here:

Well that's fine if you don't include it, it's your choice. It's always nice to see the progression and the thought process that goes into a logo not just the finished piece. You could not include it in your portfolio, but it wouldn't be bad if you took some along to show the process and your handskills if you have them.

Sad because it used to be fairly standard back in the days of typositor (now I'm dating myself!), to have those alternate characters on the reel. I don't know if they've digitized any of them yet. OpenType maybe?
Oh, and yeah, nice work! I love seeing Avant Garde, it became old hat for awhile.

I like all of those logos! The ones with the scroll-y looking accents are badass.
Logos have been one of the hardest things for me to produce, so i'm in awe right now.
Good deal!

Great work!
I agree that you should include your sketches. In future, keep a sketch book, yes, even for inhouse designs. I keep one made up of copy paper, spiral bound with straw board covers for the front and back.
Sketch, sketch constantly...

Ally, I am not gonna crit. I am just gonna say that you spanned a wide range of treatments and should be very confident with these when presenting them, sketches or no sketches. Yes interviewers like to see how your thought pattern works, but as executions these are spot on.
Great work!

I would love to see photos of your sketch book, I have really been enjoying sketching ideas as of late, especially when a pants one turns it's idea and ends up workable.
I have been trying to keep a 'visual noise' sketch book (nothing homemade, just a dlaer rowney A5 booklet) of what interests me in this strange world we live in, but unfortunately it always gets pushed to the back of the schedule. Going to Copenhagen this weekend so I might see what goodies/visual ideas I can find to add to it there.
Deffo post some photos up of this book fella, I am sure others would love to see it too.

No problemo.
Have a looksy at font shop articles too, some of them are really good, and give a great insight to gorgeous typography. A good little resource.
