I don't know where it came from, because my taste in music includes alternative and some classic rock, such as Weezer, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews (a hold-over from college that I can't let go), etc.

I got my wife a Sirius satellite radio and have been listening to their stations at work on-line, which is a nice bonus for me. They have a nice variety of specific music stations, and I've discovered I enjoy listening to their classic jazz station.

It's weird because I'm a relatively un-cultured, caucassion, 27 year-old schmoe but I guess I'm tired of the same old thing and I'm getting older and appreciating older things.

It is funny that I probably now have something in common with my 80+ aunt. I should ask her for jazz recommendations. :)

Can I recommend TV on the Radio? Excellent blend of rock & w/ jazz elements with some electronic influences as well. Lead singer has an amazing voice.

I would strongly recommend Stan Getz, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis among many other great jazz musicians. I think listening to a very broad range of music is good for your sanity. One minute I'm listening to the Strokes the next its Buena Vista Social Club. Maybe it just calms my schizophrenic tendancies.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will be on the lookout for CDs from these masters. I found Jazz to be more uplifting when I'm sleep deprived and cranky at work.

I like jazz aswell, but more of the "free style" stuff where they are not playing a specific song.

I really like even the older music.. more on the line of classical. I appriciate Bach more than any other classical composer.

I can always listen to Enya.

Dave Brubeck, Thelonius Monk, Count Bassie, Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie and countless others...check em all out. Listening to jazz is a refreshing break from all of this pure shiz you hear on the radio today.
