Hello! I'm new here and this is my first post.

I'm putting together a menu for an Italian Bistro and a Mexican Food Restaurant. They both require a fancy border of some sort. I have found some decent borders on websites like istockphoto, ect., but they don't quite fit the bill. Does anyone know of a good source for vector borders ( software, cd, website, ect? ). Please help and thanks!:)

Make your own, try photo montaging something together and then tracing it. So much more fun and you'll be getting so much more out of it

Are most menu designers making their own borders like this? I figured designers buy a cd full of vector clip art or something. Do you suggest Illustrator for vector or Photoshop? Are there any "how to" threads on this subject? Thanks!

Definately Illustrator it handles vectors better.

Alternatively, go to the "classifieds sticky" and commission some, be specific where you can.

Try Googe-ling "graphic borders" or something to that effect you might find something.

This is exactly why I posted this. I have googled, "vector borders", "menu vectors", "vector graphic borders", ect. Granted, I have come across a few good ones, I am suprised that there is a lack of quality vector borders available on the internet. Thanks for your input :)

hey dorian ...lol thats like my screen name... get yourself to the free fonts websites and look up woodcut fonts and such, you should be able to start there, and maybe add some lines, I don't know which font would be appropirate, but it'd be quite simple to type, and create outlines, then add a few lines.

BTW thanks for the idea I think I'll write a tutorial about that~!

Signlab has a whole clipart folder full of them.
Freehand 7 came with a killer clipart set too.

Good fonts for border do-it-yourselfers would be Hoefler Ornaments or Adobe Woodtype Ornaments 1 and 2.

Your best bet is to probably do your best creating it from scratch if none of the stock vector borders suited your liking.

Illustrator has some nice borders in the brush libraries. You may be able to find some additional Illustrator borders/brushes through other sources - have never checked into it. Illustrator is for vector graphics.

www.dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com) has some fonts that are border designs. Also, type in "free vector flourishes" in google. And then you can always go to barns n noble or borders and go to the art design section and get a clip art book with CD. (thanks mylkhead)
