Hey everyone,
Getting enough work on the side to warrant a business card/website.
Have been through several ideas and keep running into companies out there that beat me to the punch (foundation design, juicy design, etc etc etc) so I resorted to sticking with my name.
Was thinking "curt design" and a slogan along the lines of "to the point".
My dilemna is that curt has negative connotations (rude, hurried, abrubt) but I was wondering if it would work with the proper spin, tying it to my name and playing more on the side of curt being efficient, to the point etc.
Thanks in advance.

The only problem I see with this ( if you can work out the negative connotations ) is that people might think your name is Curtis
Why not call it "Eraser Nubbin Design" i'm pretty sure that's not taken. :)

That's what I would think... Curtis.

I don't want to be curt with you, but I don't like the title "curt design."

What other ideas do you have running around inside your head?

My name is curtis... I don't have a problem with being called curt though. Just thought the curt would have a bit of a double meaning...
Other names... I was thinking foundation marketing - foundation design because I do work for realtors and plumbers, figured they could relate to that

Came up with a marketing scheme called juicy designs in college

Curt designs was my latest one... not sure where to go from here.

How about "Ding Bat Design" Just something that popped into my head, not trying to imply anything, just a thought.....really. A font thing...maybe. :)

I like Curt is Design too! Original and probably not taken.
This is way off subject, but I thought I'd share since your name is Curtis. When we were kids, my sister and I, for some reason that I don't know, used to call those little smell good almost votive candles "Curtis inside your nose."

Satchel - That thought had crossed my mind in the past... I was just worried that maybe it sounded a little overpresumptuous, like I was the self declared roman god of design or something.
Another one that crossed my mind was Crowland Design, which is my first initial, middle intial, last name... but thought it might be a little morbid... I kind of like the sound of it though.
Your name is Curtis R. Owland!?
I'm sorry.

I would also think "Curtis".
But how about dropping the "r" CUT(T) design.
or there could be some play with curti(ou)s design,
hmmm maybe spelling mistakes look bad, i dunno, has the opposite meaning to curt though.
Names are a real bugger and you kinda need to look at expansion, it's fine to give the impression of being bigger than you are, as long as you know you can handle the work, but also whether you want to give your clients that personal feeling when they read your name. It depends whether you want to get pigeon holed too.
last names are always successful.
I like the idea.
I think some people get this all to complex when really what is it that you want to brand?
I would think one would want thier name especially if they arn't a widly known designer/firm- no?
With that said, I agree with cjoe. However, I think the curt idea has some potential.
The first thing I allways do in these instances is look to the great dictonary.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/curt
As you can see it has some negative implications but, also has a positive one that you could build on through branding- to point.
Another thing I do is look for words that include the word in question within them to get some ideas.
Another last thing you can do is look into the orgin of your last name or the word in question. Alot of times this can yield some interesting results as well.
The first thing that comes to mind as per imagery hough is something to with certains. So maybe use a concept based on covering things up or something as certains do to start your idea exploration. its just an example but, thats how I would adventure about.
