Okay, this one is a complete switch.
My client is a direct mail client in New York. His target audience is consumers who might use a psychic consultant, astrology and numerology.
The mail package consists of an outer envelope, a brochure, a testimonial and a return card.
Apparently his target audience responds better to "desktop design trash" in test marketing over "conservative clean" or "occult looking".
The client asked me to design the package as though it weren't designed by a professional designer. More like as if it were a low budget desktop admin produced piece. Over the top use of boxed or bordered elements, dingbats, desktop fonts etc.
I asked why he didn't just have his secretary or office personnel produce the piece with Microsoft Word. Well I guess he still wants it to be designed correctly for the press, just not look like it.
