This is kind of an odd question, but does anyone here have (or use) any kind of genealogy software on their Macintoshes?

My mother has a PC and uses 'Family Tree Maker' but she has a friend who was telling her that she wanted to get something similiar for her Mac but couldn't find anything and was wondering if any software exists for Macs.

Anyone know of anything? Thanks in advance!

Family Tree Maker discontinued their Mac product lines several years ago. You can still probably get the mac version on Ebay however.

Go to this page for more information:

I'd try asking that at geneology.com or another like site. They may have a better chance of knowing the answer.

My grandma used to use family tree maker - it kinda sucks they discontinued it. I still have to acquire an old mac monitor to get the files off her Quadra 610 - it has been laying around my apartment for a couple years now.

I have found this blog entry for you though:

Couldnt she use that software to run windows programs on the mac?

As far as software, the best family history software that I've used is called PAF (Personal Ancestral File), you can find it at: www.familysearch.org , It is about 8.5mb to download the free evaluation (the evaluation lets you print and view a limited number of generations).

I know that you can apply images, and other files (linked) to each name, but you need to put copies of the images/files in the same folder. its a very good program. Alot of those other geneology software that I've seen where DOS powered.. PAF is almost like a browser window..

Also, if you need/want to submit your files/names, there is a compression/exporting option, that makes it easy to submit, because they (family searching sites) can take the .paf file easily.

My favorite is Reunion by http://www.leisterpro.com/

I have used it since 1998 and I love it.
