I know we have a bunch of musicians here in the forum. I'd like to see what you all play. :)

Bass is and always will be my main instrument. Mine is a 2005 Rickenbacker 4003. The guitar is a custom made instrument, made by my brother from a solid 2" thick peice of rock maple. It's heavy as hell but has a monster tone. The keyboard is a cheapy Yahama I picked up to add some strings or piano riffs to some of my original recordings. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif

Man, I want to get another guitar. I sold my last one I bought during college because I never had time for it, but if I had one now I would definitely make time. I had a wine red Stagemaster HH by Squier which looked cool, and sounded pretty damn solid, but I just didn't have the time to play, so I wound up selling it to my bro. I think I'm going to get something with a Gibson body next time.

I'd love to get into making my own music. I dabbled with Sound Forge and ACID in college (the program, not the other stuff). The only problem is that there seems to be a STEEP learning curve, not just in terms of playing, but I'm talking actual equipment and such. I couldn't tell you what half of the other stuff is in your pic. Well, I could, but not what they're for.

I use the Sony Acid recording software. It is a bit tricky to use at first but once you get the hang of it you can do some pretty incredible stuff. It's opened up a whole new world for me since I'm not really in a position to jam with other musicians.

I loved ACID right away. Probably will get a copy when funds aren't so tight and I have the time to dabble. I was just fascinated by it and the possibilities.

I don't have a pic, but I did a 3D model for my 3D modelling course in college of my old axe. I'll post it tonight (if I remember).

I remembered, but I don't have a pic anywhere. Oh well, it was kinda crappy anyway.

Man, your brother made that? Beautiful bass, I play a little percussion unfortunately I am remodeling my dwonstairs and the kit is packed up but it's cherry red sparkle with a bass, snar, 2 toms, kettle, 3 roto toms, with all zildjian smbols and high hat. I'm not very good but man I love pounding away on that sucka.

Yeah, he's made a bunch of them, he's pretty good. If he could just get someone famous to play one he could be the next Paul Reed Smith.

I play the french horn, but I don't own one at the moment, so no photo from me. (d'oh!) I think that there might be a tambourine in my basement - maybe I can locate it and post a pic. :D

I played the ukelele and recorder in grade 4.

All my friends are musicians, I play a tiny bit of guitar, but while they were all playing tunes and jammin' I was painting surrealistic drug induced paintings and illustrations.

Dang, I wish I had a camera. :o

Anyway, I have a Kawai digital piano that I have yet to fiddle with in terms of hooking it up to the computer (next project), a classical guitar, a harmonica, a bass guitar that needs strings (cornfed, please don't yell at me!), and a couple of random hand drums, plus this weird little (think Mini Me) guitar that my husband picked up in Tijuana.

Nice set of skins there J, I would so much love to jam with a real drummer. I play around with the loops but there is nothing like the grove a real live bass & drummer can get into.

drum + bass = a huge smile on my face. Bass is my second fav instrument. I love drum and bass together... Thats mainly what I play with. live jamming is the best but who says we cant jam? send me a bassline and ill add drums to it... then we can send it to another GDFer who wants to lay on a track of somthin else... and then another and another. that would be crazy

We have a lot of equipment we could use on this recording mission. Protools, some big box with a bunch of recording stuff racked onto it (I'll pic it tommorrow). I don't know what all that stuff on the rack is. We have mics and mic stands and headphones and monitors and a bunch of wires. Hell, everything you need to make a record! I'm sure some of you guys with all that gear on here will know what we have. I got to be the recording engineer on one of our record releases once cause my husband had to leave and the band was still there. My job was to "only hit the record and pause button. Don't touch anything else!"

I have this dream of laying down guitar and vocal tracks to all the songs I love to sing. Some are old murder ballads and a bunch of other old timey stuff from around the turn of the century. Then when friends come over, have them lay down a track of whatever instrument they play. Eventually, we'd have a record made of it - it would probably have a lot of fiddle on it since that what we know most of, but I'm sure I could find somebody with a washtub bass and maybe an upright. Add a few guitars and banjo....

No, G-man, we don't really play much bluegrass. I guess some of it is, but mostly old timey stuff from the turn of the century and a lot of early black string band music stuff. I love to sing old Charlie Poole songs and real old gospel stuff and songs like "Ain't Gonna Rain No Mo" (How in the heck will I wash my neck it aint gonna rain no mo!". Stuff like that. But I mainly play in a cajun/creole/lala/zydeco band. Here's a link to some stuff on our band - http://www.lsue.edu/acadgate/music/gthibodeaux.htm

Here's a link to some of our tunes from our last cd.
http://courtneyfuller.com/site/Templates/template1.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1

I think I posted those once before. I wish I knew how to post recordings out of itunes. I would post some of my oldtimey stuff.

I think we're gonna be playing live on krvs.org when we play the Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Fest on September 3rd. We were broadcast live last year, but nobody told me. I had no idea and started correcting my 3 year old from the stage. I also didn't know someone was making a dvd of our band (oops!). This year I will try to contain myself better or just get a babysitter!

I have one of those finger pianos! I bought it a few years ago at Jazz Fest in New Orleans when my band played. It's a gourd that's all carved up with a finger piano on top. Concertina's are one of my favorite instruments that I don't know how to play, Balou. I always consider those the harpsichords (another I love and can't play) of the accordion family!! My friend plays one really well (or good?).

I'm not really sure. This one is made out of bamboo, not the traditional teak. I'm pretty much a spuz when it comes to playing music, so the whole circular breathing thing is a bit beyond me.

I would love too, but I don't have Garage Band yet. I have some stuff with minimal tracks laid out if we wanted to use it as a point of departure. The only thing is that it's old-timey murder ballads, old gospel stuff and stuff like that - songs that are already in existence. I haven't really met anyone on here who's into that sort of thing.

Thanks Kittie! But unfortunately that's just a testament to my Photoshop retouching skills, this is what I actually look like before I pick up the cloning tool.

Wow! That's some pretty good photoshopping. :D

Nice axe, I used to have a late 70s 4001, a white one. I sold it during a bad time and regretted it for many many years.

Was it one of those tuxedo ones they've got on ebay every now and again?

Kool

Nope just the standard one with the black trim. I would have got another one but they don't make em anymore. My all time favorite color was the Burgundy one (http://www.willcuttguitars.com/images/4003bg-2.jpg)

WOW, I doubt he'll get that much for it but who knows. That's the great thing about Rics, they never go down in value.

Nope. Even the beat up ones like I've got go for $600 and up. They've got to be in pretty rough shape to pick them up cheaper than that.

Didn't Cliff have the burgundy finish?

Kool

Heh heh, just a truss rod cover are selling for 2-3 bills. Cliff's was indeed a burgundy. His was pretty modified though, with a big humbucker in the neck spot and what looks like a jazz stuck in between.

My hubby is also a basist. He's got a lurvly fretless 1974 Fender Precision. I'm the musical retard of the family as I only play drums. He plays french horn, guitar, mandolin, didgeridoo and a whole host of other random instruments. Makes me look like a right ringo star!

That's my boyfriend, playing a guitar I bought for him a few years ago. Not my axe, but I paid for it, that's close enough. I don't really have any of my own instruments anymore, visual art kinda took over my creative side.

I have Acid Pro 6.0 with softsynths and a MIDI keyboard.
My MIDI keyboard and software allow me to play the keyboard, and then fix my lousy playing. It's actually bad enough that I usually just use ACID/WAV loops.
ACID is awesome for people looking to create music, but can't play an instrument.

Kool,
Have you got Acid set-up on dual monitors, or one?
I heavily recommend the two if you can. It really frees up the track environment so you don't spend so much time scrolling up and down.

Nope I only have one monitor. I spend a lot of time scrolling and moving window edges. Two would be nice.

Yup. Used to at least -- in high school and a little in college (until I broke my arm).

This is a picture of my granfather's alto saxophone. I need to check the serial number against the list on Selmer's web site to find the exact year -- '30s or '40s I think.
