Good morning,
Please help me to resolve this problem.
I used Illustrator 10 to make a simple black & white ad with 1 photo in grayscale mode imported from Photoshop and some lines of text and logos. In Illustrator, I set text and logos to 100% black (in grayscale mode too). When I sent the ad to the magazine, I was so sure that everything will be OK. Unfortunately, the output was weird: the picture was fine but the black text and logos became gray. I called the magazine and asked for an explication but they simply said that was not their fault. And my boss was so mad at me /emoticons/huh.gif I really didn't know why.
Now, I must send the same ad to the same magazine. This time, I'm not sure at all and I'm affraid that I'll get the same bad result. Please help!
Thanks in advance.

Send your file to a printer and get a press proof. This way you can save you ass next time the magazine screws up. You have to pay for it but think about it, whats more important? Tell your boss that you think they screwed up and that you want to make shore it doesn't happen again so you need a press proof.

Also if it happens with the press proof ask the print how to fix it. That way you really save you but if it was your fault. Good luck and don't get down over this. I've had worse things happen to me.

well i think the magazine company should have caught that, but benjo is right, you can always do a press check, that is wierd that it would print like that though....try your build at 45% CMY and 100% K next time and see what happens, might come out in that really dark deep black that you want.

Thank you very much for your help!
This time, I did get a press proof and everything came out fine. I knew that it wasn't my fault. I felt much, much better /emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Once again, thanks for your help and support!

Everyone has their own mix preference.
Sometimes depends on the print device.
It's a good idea to ask your print vendor
what they like to use to make it look the best.
