Hi this is a logo for a small company that will do building work, renovations, as well as design. They've gone for Platinum as a name.

The brief I was given was to do something very loosely based on the atomic structure of Platinum (the first image below).

I've come up with a few ideas. Any comments or ideas for improvement?

Wow! I really like the symbol for two and how you've integrated the type for six. You've got a good range there, usually my ideas are getting weak after the second one if I am lucky.

While I think this is a very, very smart approach to the logo, no one will get it. If you hadn't prefaced your design with 'This is what the atomic structure of platimum looks like' I would say that your mark has nothing to do with your service. And that's still kind of my comment. When I look at these logos, I don't get 'Ohhh, building and design'.

That being said, I like #1. It looks cool and high-tech and I can just see in my mind some small but super powerful explosion happening in that circle. Logistically it's a nightmare, but visually it's sweet. If you can take that cool factor, marry it with your service you'll have it. Good work! Keep us updated, I'd love to see how this turns out.

I like the design of #3 personally, but fitting to the company name, #2 would be best. :)

Thanks everyone. Holliday: I know what you mean about linking with the nature of the business. I raised this with the client but they weren't too concerned about it. They want something that will make the company appear fairly big and professional. They don't want anything that explicitly links with a builder or designer - like pictures of a house or ladder or whatever. I guess to do what you're saying I would need to think of how to suggest building/house design in an abstract way, and also combine it with something of the atomic structure idea (which the client wants).

i actually think the logotype in #3 presents a more architectural symbol while maintaining a more generic appearance. a blending of the 2 concepts, atom structure and building will be an interesting one. i'd like to see how this one turns out.

when I think construction I think hard tough not soft light colors...

they gave you some retard guidelines for this project...

is printing it in a silver metallic ink a possiblity...maybe straight silver text would be an idea

out of all of them the bottom left is the best

I like the idea of silver text, I might raise that with them.

You might be right about the light colours. I guess the problem is that platinum is obviously a very light colour, but perhaps I can try and work the two together. Maybe a black background with a silver ring or something. Hmm.

What about this: a bit more conventional:

Hi Bejamin,

The consumer in me says 'go with the new one'. The designer in me says 'go with number 2'. I think it's very clever the way you've turned the platimum concept into a house shape. Very nice.

I agree. I do like #2, but the new one portrays more of what the company is, making it easier for the viewer to make the connection.

I like #2 as well - simple, classic lines. But yeah, this new one conveys 'building' more than the other do. I'd like to see the new logo with the font from #1, if it has a bolder version.

Overall, I envy you your logo-designing skills. :)
