I need the pages in my portfolio site to load quicker..

The site is full of bloated code. It uses tables for layout - if nothing else, file size and download speed should be enough to convince you to learn CSS.
Move the CSS you have into a seperate style sheet and link it or import it - that way it's loaded once. The way you have it has to be loaded on each page on each visit.
The files size would be hugely different if it was properly marked up. You're obviously a graphic print designer and illustrator, so I would suggest getting someone who knows web design (or at least markup) to turn your layout into HTML templates.
It depends how much you want to invest in your portfolio. i.e. is it just a place to show your work, or do you want to make into a revenue stream by getting clients from it?
If you're going to use it to try to get work then it's definately worth the investment.

I'd also recommend a new host. Even with flash and images the page shouldn't take that long. I'm on a 7mb connection here and it took 20 seconds. Most users will be long gone by then.

yeah,.
The weird thing is that sometimes it loads quickly and some times it take ages!
really annoying to say the least!
Im actually thinking of a redesign of the whole thing..
its too fiddly and the design detracts from the work a little too much for a portfolio style site.
oh well..you live and learn!

Just looking at your portfolio, you have some very interesting images, but I'd quite like to see a description of them...are they for commercial use or personal? May help future clients to see where you are coming from too, as some of the are a bit...alternative.

If it loads fast sometimes and not others, then it's the host. If it were due to lack of optimization, it would always load slowly.

some are for bands, flyers, etc etc some are just for fun!
I work in the music industry as a graphic designer and this is an outlet for my illustration and fine art work.
