Hi Guys, I'm working a design up for a client who has a pharmacy and was wanting to be clever in merging traditional and more modern pharmacuetical methods.

Have nicley blended in a mortor and pessle that I found in one of the stock libraires.

Found a very good concept that someone was using as for tabbed buttons and thought this would work well if made to look a little more like a pill/capsule:

Can anyone give ideas/inspiration of who best to work this capsule type effect in to the design, I was playing around with the elipse tool last night and going nowhere fast.

Thanks,
ww

to make a good capsule effect I usually have to draw a circle and duplicate it then a rectangle. Using the elipse tool you will just get a funky oval.

This shows how I take the circle and rectangle to get a nice capsule ...then merge them and ... usually all the same color .. but I have the contrast to show you how I do it.

ok, this is where I got to:

The whole design series is here:

Was quite fortunate as I found a cute tool after a few goes in  Fireworks  called a chamfer rectangle which basically let me draw a rectangle and adjust the edges to be completly half circle, saved flatting layers and its always a nuiscance to try ad reapply effects / colour changes to a bitmap, so quite happy that I can tweak my vectored shape.

Any comments, have a review with the client tomorrow, if anything I'm expecting maybe a colour change but hoping to get my web slice tool a go after that.

Thanks,
ww

It ight be my eyes, but I find the colour combination, or maybe the hues to be difficult to view - I wouldn't want to look at that site for any length of time

When you have links over the blue background I'd change the hover over colour from red. Although you only see it for a fraction of a second I still think it's quite a harsh contrast...

Out of sheer curiosity (i'm a beginner)

How did you manage to get the custom shape for the header?

I think the design looks extremely good..i just don't like some of the font selection, maybe that's just me.

How did you manage to get the custom shape for the header?
I used the rectangle fill option in FireWorks.

After drawing a rectangle, change the fill options, in this case to Waves, then play with the colours.
By moving the pattern about I got the desired shape.
I then placed a cut out a curve to give the white space for displaying text / products on. The white curve was very difficult for me to do, tried to reproduce it using bezier curves on the pen tool but in the end used a layer from the original template I based the site on:
