Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum lark. It seems very useful. I'm here to ask for help:
I'm about to start designing a website, what do i do??
I have attached my design concept to this message [criticisms welcome]
I have experience in 'Flash' and will be creating a short introduction page, and page transitions.
However, i have no experience in HTML or CSS. I'd really appreciate some help and advice of where to start.
Thanks

A great beginner resource is www.w3schools.com (www.w3schools.com).
But realistically, if you have no knowledge of HTML/CSS/ this will not be a quick project. As technologies go those are the easiest ones, but it's still not something you can entirely learn in a week.

hey, thanks very much for your quick response. I'm slightly worried now... I wasn't expecting to learn this in a week. But i don't have masses of time...
What if I design the entire site in 'flash' and created a html page to hold it? Or is that a completely ridiculous idea??
Thanks...

You can do an all flash site if you like, but search engine rankings will suffer. As far as I know, most of the SE's, especially the smaller ones, still can't crawl flash. Beyond that your audience will be a LITTLE bit smaller. There's a few people, like myself, who surf the web with activeX disabled in IE, and it can't load flash without it. But odds are people interested in hiring graphic designers will have flash enabled.
I had heard that the larger SE's were working on bots that could index flash sites, but I haven't heard anything about it since.

If you know Flash, maybe not so ridiculous, but otherwise that is a pretty ambitious plan as well. Flash is tough. Good Flash is even tougher, if not according to some outright impossible ( ). If it's all new to you, I'd get cracking on the HTML/CSS. I know there's been some valuable resources posted about where to find the kind of help you need through other posts, mainly through books and what have you, but JPnyc offered probably one of the best free resources.
