Design Feedback please!

I'm creating a website for a friend. But I'm not sure about the design. It's for a social group.

I have no images, the site will mainly be text content based.

Please could I have some feedback?

There will be a blue logo on the top left.

Like does it look too plain? Are the colours boring? My design skills aren't great and I'm not too sure what else I can do to jazz this up?

It will look different once you have your content in there. The only thing I don't like, personal preference thing, is the beveled subtitle graphics. Everything else looks nice so far - for a content based site, you don't want too much going on anyway right?

Maybe look around on sites like cssbeauty.com cssvault.com or csszengarden.com for some ideas.

I really like the colors, actually.

I really like the header and the colors. Am interested in seeing it with the content though. The only thing I would change would be to add a bit more saturated color to the top. The colors in the tables are brighter than the header. Otherwise it's nice.

Im using firefox (its my default... i recommend it to everyone!! Just make sure you test websites in the almighty crappy arse IE) and your site looks good. NIce start. Keep us posted on progress

Like the header and the colors...but agree with EC about the bevels...flat color would go much better with your header graphic. Nice job so far.

Ok. Thanks. So:


remove the bevels.
Make the top graphic stronger in colour.
Make the headers a bit lighter in colour.

you might want to change the top graphic to a higher res gif or JPeg.

i think there is too much white space between the areas, perhaps bring it tighter together and make the site a bit less wide. but i guess that depends on what content you got going in

As you can see, I changed the header at the top, as I don't think it was bold enough, but I will still use this somewhere on the site.

I also removed the bevels, as it gives a more modern look.

Let me know what you think.

(Obviously, box layouts will change on each page.)

Very cool headers...I like all of them. The rest of the layout is looking good as well...in Safari there is some jumbling of the column elements, but that might just be the state they are in right now during design...but looking very good. Nice work!
