Inspired by yelanna's wicked illustrations, I decided to finally do an illustration I'd long ago promised as a wedding present (etiquette says 1 year, right? Back me up on this). I'd been planning on doing a real honest to goodness painting, but it's been quite a while since I've held a paintbrush. So, in the spirit of avoiding packing for my big cross country move, I whipped up the following:

I'm gonna get it printed on a large format, and framed up. Before I go to the expense though, I thougt I'd better get some feedback. I can never tell initially if somethign sucks, and I don't have the couple of weeks it'll take me to become objective - I'll have moved 3000 miles away by then. My wife says the heart is too obvious. I like it, but she's usually right once objectivity finally settles in. So: should I spend a couple of hundred bucks on this thing? Keep the heart?

Really nice. The heart is sweet. It's okay to sweet and sexy...
I'm sure you'll have it done on canvas. Computer art becomes validated when printed on canvas, right? Hate to pick up a brush myself. And that paint! Did it always smell like that? Who needs physicality and process when there are artist's tools like illustrator and photoshop. Consider it printmaking! The great printmakers always have their work printed by pros.
Good work, great colors, fab topic...
think I'll go see what the ol' spousal unit is up to.

Love it, love it, love it - the heart, especially! Love the colors, love the imagery, love how one shoe on each person is black.
Your wife looks like a hottie. Assuming he's you and she's her.
What I'd really like to see is a photo of your wall after you've hung the print up. http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/laugh.gif

Ok. It's back from the framers, and looks awesome. Thank you BuckarooB for the canvas tip. It cost a small fortune, so I cheaped out on the framing. It looks good, but if I had deeper pockets I'd have put it in a deeper frame. Oh well, next time.
So here it is:
But wait, there's more! I've tweaked the image into a t-shirt design, and submitted it to Threadless. Please vote for me! My first t-shirt! The link is www.***************/submission/23270.html (http://www.***************/submission/23270.html)
Thanks.

I don't know - I think it looks great in that frame. Very gallery-like. Yep, when it comes to canvas, you'd think they didn't want to sell the stuff.
I justify the cost in this way - if I have it done on paper, mounted on gatorboard, and laminated under low-sheen it costs even more and usually arrives damaged. When done on canvas, it's long-lasting, looks fantastic and gains an amplitude of respect and it arrives rolled, protected and undamaged.
Of course the drawback there is stretching it and how the hell to get the stretched canvas to mount in the frame... I don't remember what I used to do when I exhibited, but it will come back to me.
On a 'fun' note; I get to continue to use my 35 year old canvas stretching pliers - I like to get my money's worth from tools and this one serves double duty stretching canvas and stretching my tonneau cover on chilly days. And it still looks brand new - buy quality tools, eh?
Nice Work fellow grizzled junior designer... We never seem to progress.

Yes indeed.
I recently bought myself a nice new benQ 19' lcd. It is very, very bright. I've gathered from a few comments I've received on this and another forum that the colours I'm seeing are quite different from what others see. Obviously, this is always going to be an issue, but it seems to be exacerbated in this case (hey - I used the word 'exacerbated', and I'm not even through my first cup of coffee).
Once I'm set up in my new digs, I'm going to have to look into making some colour adjustments to my setup... Oh well, live and learn.

That turned out so nice, PF. Now you've inspired me to do something similar. Don't know of what yet, but I'm really diggin' the idea of having my own art hanging on my walls.
