Hello All
Naive question but nececary.
I'm doing a Flash based web site and am wondering to what extent its exposure will be restricted by designing and publishing 100% Flash.
I notice that some sites have a small amounts of Flash content - other sites 100% Flash content. I'm prompted on some sites to install the latest Flash player others I just glide through.
Is this because content created with Flash software requires the corresponding version's players to read new features used??
Will the site I create be able to be accessed by someone using Win95 with an old Flash player, for example??
Many thanks in advance.

Browsers don't read flash, the flash player plugin does. As to accessibility, that depends on the code you use. If you use code that an older version understands, it'll work in that version of the player. If you use modern coding for the newest version, it won't.
If its a commerce based site I would starre clear of the flash.
If this is just for a personal portfolio or something then I wouldn't worry.
Since, I would think most art directors and people in the creative industry have flash.
However, as simple it is to optain if someone with doctorate in medicine see's that it can't be displayed then they will most likly just to forget about. So it all depends on your target market.

Will the site I create be able to be accessed by someone using Win95 with an old Flash player, for example??If someone is still using Win95, do you really care if they can view your site? They certainly aren't going to become on of your clients/customers.
If you've not started working on the site yet, my advice is to use flash where it adds a benefit - don't use it just to use it. Plus - search engines can't index any of the content in a flash file.

Their money will spend the same as anyone else's.

Yes, it will, but I will almost guarantee that the person who is still using windows 95 is also the same person that will tell you that their nephew can design a [insert your medium of choice here] for them for $25.

But we don't know what the product is. If it's vitamins or bed and bath or pool tables, odds are the nephew can't help.

If it's vitamins or bed and bath or pool tables, odds are the nephew can't help.Odds are he can't anyway - they just like the idea of spending $25 vs. a few hundred or a few thousand dollars. :D

Yeah, it's a folio site offering, amongst other things, basic Flash stuff. I figured people who would want superficial Flash content on their site would like to see it showcased, much as it's overuse is irritating.
Thanks me beauts - much obliged

You can use Javascript to substitute other content for the Flash if they have a lower version plugin or no Flash at all. Look up SWFObject.

You should do that anyway...it stops that stupid border from showing up when you mouse over a flash file. But remember - content replaced with a js still can't be read by a search engine.
