There is a difference between harsh and critical. If you only speak the truth, then there are no apologizes. If you speak the truth but go overboard because of personal feelings, then you need to set yourself straight. Either way, its good you're aware of your own behavior and I'm sure whomever is supposed to be reading this has taken your words to heart.
