If you could specialise in 1 bit of design within print or web or whatever, what would it be?
What niche in design do you really enjoy doing?
I really like designing event tickets. There's something about the enlongated shape (as opposed to standard business cards) that appeals to me. Things look better to my eye compositionally when placed in a long rectangle. Squares are too hard for me. There's usually a bit of text (not too much) and a logo or two. Just enough for me to play with.
book design. I'd love to be able to do some book design for non-fiction. Fiction novels have too many boring chunks of type, i'd want to do layouts for somthing like cookbooks or somthing like that.

Cookbooks would make me too hungry! I do love good food photography though.

Anything information design. Maps, charts and graphs and scientific illustrations for educational textbooks. Those informative illustrations in USA Today.
I'm an organization junkie. Information design was my favorite part of my visual communications courses in college, hands down. I made a family tree and a timeline of the flights of 9/11. I love looking at the NYC subway map.
Here's some really cool information design that I just love:
Commanding Heights, a time map of the world in the last century: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/commandingheights/hi/timemap/ti.html
MoMA Tall Buildings: http://moma.org/exhibitions/2004/tallbuildings/index_f.html

That kind of stuff to me is the coolest stuff in the world.

Posters and corresponding fliers and banners for events; I like to see things in series and how the elements are used in proportion to the size of the product.

I really love the diversity of my job but if I had to narrow it down to one thing... maybe magazine design & layout. Though it would be the same thing it would take longer to bore me because of ads, people & features constantly changing... Either that or brand management/consulting firm.

If I could specialize in designing one thing... it would be money. Definately. I'd do all my own printing too.

My first choice would be Posters because they've seemed absent lately (other than film posters). My second choice would be album art and my third would be book cover design.

You might enjoy doing courtroom presentations for trial attorneys.

You know, I have been told by a friend of mine, and former lawyer, that I would make REALLY good money doing that. My one problem is that I'm an unbelievably slow designer. I think that's why I'm stuck working for a public school district, instead.
When I get my creativity speed up to par I think I might be able to handle it. I'm not sure I'd like the pressure though. There's another reason I'd probably never make it at USA Today or any other newspaper for that matter. Fast fast fast fast, go go go go!
