The hype surrounding this child bothers me a great deal. When news personalities spin "the most sought after baby photos...the most popular couple...the most hyped..." my eyes glaze over and I am nauseated.

But the child is beautiful in spite of the hype. Very cute.

What are the parameters of baby cuteness anyways? The Cruise's little gal isn't ugly-- but then, a surprisingly few amount of babies are not ugly either-- and there's many, MANY that are more beautiful. That is, going by the traditional beauty specs of symmetry, component proportions, complexions, blemish/hair, roundness. Must be the celebrity-halo effect.

The thing is, for most parents though, it's not so much what a baby looks like as prepared and shot by a pro photographer, as much as it what it SOUNDS like at 3 a.m. the week after you bring it home.

Unless you can afford the luxury of accommodating the baby's sleep schedule with your own, that is.

I never understood why Cruise was so secretive about it, but someone brought up a good point that there might have been complications. If that wasn't the case and if I were Cruise or Holmes, I would have just let the baby be seen right off the bat and get it over with to kill the mystique and interest. Can you imagine just how much the paparazzi likely hounded them trying to get a picture of the baby?
