How can some people call themselves cat lovers???
This was just across the border and the TV reports made both Darci and me ill. I hope this couple gets a long time in a small cage.

animal hoarding is a mental illness, and looking at it as such is the only way to "understand" how people who claim to be "animal lovers" can not recognize what is going on right before their eyes.

It makes me sad.

We have had a few cases of that around here..... not to that extreme but upwards of 30 or 40 cats and kitten, dogs and puppies.

Some how they start out with good intentions and fail to realize when they have crossed the line and are unable to take proper care of the poor animals.

It is very sad.

That is truly disheartening when animals have to be "saved" from a shelter.

I once had a cat hoarder as a neighbor. It was terrible. You would see the cats at the windows looking out. When the Humane Society finally rescued them, there were over 100 in the house and more had to be caught in humane traps outside. The stench was unbearable. There were also 2 children in the house.

That was over 25 years ago, but I can still remember the smell.

I remember that smell too Vikia ..... it is something you can't quite describe unless you have experienced it. We had a woman who was an animal hoarder in Luzerne.... she lived in a tiny little house with over 40 cats and dogs... none of which ever went outside. So you can just imagine. I was taking care of a elderly woman who lived next to her ... she came over and asked me if I could help her with her stove one day .... she couldn't get the oven door to shut.... so I went over .... and holy cow.... I almost barfed ... I was holding my shirt over my nose.

Now she herself had a horrific odor as well... she would come visit this lady from time to time and you could smell her coming ... but I had no idea what condition her house was in until that day she asked me to come over. She was disabled so I thought sure I'll see if I can fix it.... well nothing could have prepared me for what I saw.

There was poop everywhere... she apologized and said she hadn't had time to clean it up today ..... well there was a lot more than one days worth there.

It was just horrible.

I talked to one of the Public Health Nurses I knew at the time and she said she would look into it ... I don't know if they ever did or not.

But it didn't matter with in a couple days Cops were there for her 16 year old son who got in trouble ..... once they saw what the conditions were, it was all over .... no one really had any idea what was going on in there until then. It was about 3 weeks later and all the animals were gone..... and she was gone too ... I don't know where they took here but they had a professional crew go in clean the house from top to bottom.

It was all very sad ... I was next door when they took her out .... she was crying and begging them not to take her babies....

I felt bad for the animals and I felt bad for her... it was really all she had ... even though it was a warped sense of helping ... she really thought she was.
