I was just informed my NOW favorite cousin won the lottery friday night.
Super 7 (Canadian Lotto) for 5 Million. She and co-workers shared on tickets and when all was divided it was $600,000 each. Shes 28 yrs old, one boy, married to a military guy. It was a relatively small jackpot this time, too bad she didn't hit a bigger one , but still. Set her and her family up now with a really good kickstart.

After losing a cousin to a motorcycle crash and our grandmother this year, its good to get some great news in my family!

(runs to store to buy lotto tickets)

Good for your family, though. I'm sure everyone's got a big grin on their face right now at the happy news.

Wow, thats awesome! I hope they properly invest it instead of just spending it. Hopefully you get a little taste of it, maybe a few thousand or somethin. :D

W00t!

That's approximately 43 million Kenya shillings, that would cover me, my children, and grandchildren for decades!

I don't know how taxes and lottery works up north, but if it were here I'd bet Uncle Sam would take $500,000 worth of each share. >:(

We don't get taxed on prize winnings like you do in the states. I don't know if there's no tax, but I know it's much less than you pay in the states.

$600,000 Kanadian, so what's that 1,000 American? :P

I believe 1/3 of your winnings is taxed in the US. I'm moving to Canada.

Canadian 600,000.=$535,260.2720 US. Much closer than I thought. I'm staying home.

Exactly what I was going to say, Mynock. :) Though actually, the Canadian Dollar is up now, higher than it's been in decades (ie, since before the Mulroney era).

Too bad the cost of living is also higher than ever, and wages the same as always.

Yeah, and the whole public health care system doesn't look nearly as rosy or anywhere near as sustainable as it once was. You'd be amazed at how many sick Canadians our doctors send southward for treatment because they can't in all good medical conscience, send their patients to 'get in line' with specialists or hard-to-book services. With the baby boomers starting to suck all the remaining financial juice out of the system in the next twenty years or so, I'm resolved to looking to eBay for my replacement parts, when the time comes.

Canadian health care certainly isn't what it use to be. One good point is you can be unemployed and visit the doctor and its covered. But you may not be able to find a family doctor, or be put waiting for specialists for months and even years. I know pregnant women that have to go to outpatients. We are still better off than the US on most parts.

We smoke alot of weed up here too and its more acceptable than the states. If it weren't for the states it wouldn't be illegal. DAMN BUSH, DAMN HIM.

We can marry gay people too. Ye haw, grab yer rainbow pajamas.

So, if you are better off medical wise then why are your doctors sending patients here (US)? I've never heard of US doctors sending patients north. (only south of the border for cheap drugs and thrills.)

Faster service.

"better" is the wrong choice of words. Each has its pros and cons.

This is too huge a conversation to get into right now while at work. heh
