Hi guys,
In Indesign, is it possible to create a spread where the spine is horizontal instead of vertical? I'm working on a calendar at the moment. You know the kind that you hang up on the wall? Last year I didn't use spreads, I just ruled a line in the horizontal middle of a portrait page and worked above and below it, but if I could tip the spreads on it's side somehow would make life a lot easier!
Thanks in advance.

This would be a great feature, it's surprising that with as many calendars as are printed out there, that vertical spreads haven't been thought of as an option in page layout programs.

I tried to follow the instructions on using the script, but I got an error. I have no idea about scripts...
Urstwile, I agree completely. Next version of Indesign?

I'll keep my bunny ears crossed! :)
you're not going to be (saddle) binding the thing,(are you?), so i dont think it really matters. Just dont use facing pages then get your printer to impose the thing the way that you want. This would, be a useful feature though, specially if inbooklet or imposer supported it. Imposer probably does but i've never used it.
or you could just put your calendar sideways.

Yeah I might have to do it my calendar sideways. We're going to saddle stitch which is why I didn't want to do a portrait spread and then split it in half myself. I did that last year and imposing was a mess!
you can still have a landscape calendar, and just bind it on the regular spine. It would just be a pain to put up on your wall.
Come to think of it, thats kinda a stupid idea.

Just do it as single pages. We'll (the printer) take care of the imposition when we get the file. Depending on the number of pages before and after the actual monthly pages, that has a lot to do with the imposition. The front cover and back cover are imposed foot to head. Inside pages may be imposed with September picture page on top and March calendar page on the bottom.
If you must build the spreads, take some paper and make a mock up, folded in half and write the calendar out as it would fold and build your pages. Remember to leave room to drill a hole if your calendar is going to hang.

Thing with single pages is that with photos that may spread over the top and bottom page, It's fiddly getting them exact. Then you got movement when they cut them down...I'll figure this out.
I am the printer, so I will be imposing this job.

Thank God for Preps. Take all the guesswork out and makes my life easier! I move usually 15 jobs a day thru my office...couldn't do it without Preps. :)

Well, another thread reminded me of this, I just sent a feature request to Adobe about this. Hopefully something comes from it!

Ditto to RickSelf's input. What you've got to make sure of, and Rick could verify this in case I'm missing something, is, do a mock-up, as suggested. I'm assuming May's pic will sit above May's calendar grid/boxes, with the saddle-stitch spine between.
Once you're happy with your mock-up, go through and number the pages on your mock-up. Then do your pages in Indy accordingly...e.g. May's pic and grid/box page won't be adjacent in your Indy doc etc. Single pages, doesn't matter; bleed all round if applicable. THEN, when it comes time to impose, the pages will flow into PREPS/DynaStrip, whatever your printer uses.
Am guessing you'll have 28pp, [calendar 24+ OFC/OBC+2pp of miscellaneous info to make up the other 4 in the saddle stitch impo.]
Hope this isn't too much information. Rick's right. Life'd be hell without PREPS.;)
