Adobe CS....tracking software.

Just thought I would put this little tid bit of info out there. The new adobe CS has abilities to communicate with the Adobe mothership. If you try to register the same serial # twice...it will log your subnet mask, ip address...etc...etc....basically this is there step in the right direction to stopping thieves. Poor D-Frag-
There is a special service for PC users only as well. You can only load the CS programs two or three times. Then you gotta call for a password tweek.
Mac version of CS can be loaded as many times as you want.
Don't know about the IP log thing. I've had mine log in to register by mistake on reload.

Ya, read the adobe forums. There is what they call a Bad Crack of the PhotoshopCS out there. When you see people asking why their control keys don't work, either their keyboard driver needs updating (or batteries if wireless) or they downloaded the crack.

Seriously, Adobe CS for PC has one of those old fashioned 'soft keys'. Not an actual Dongle but similar. If you reload the program more than a few times you have to call Adobe for a serial number update to unlock your disk. The cracked version has a bad patch on the soft key. The Mac version does not have any of this. I don't think Adobe is tracking serial number registration by internet IP logging (heck, Allen's old forum used to say 'IP logged' all the time. Did you care?) but who knows. How far into a firewall do you think they can actually read? What if you don't have a static IP?Who's, um, stupid enough to register 'borrowed' software. When you load it, pull the internet connection cord so you don't inadvertently let the program attempt to register. Not hard to beat.

I hope it does discourage piracy. I don't like it cuz it drives the cost of software up. I don't particularly care if you do it. Just don't tell me about it. And don't ask me to do it.

Hey, did anyone notice that the update to Panther 10.3.3 tells you it has to run software to determine if the update can be installed? You have an option to continue or quit. What's up with that? Are you consenting to something there they aren't telling you about?
