How do you guys get your clients?

Hello. Just curious. How do you find clients? For me, so far they found me via search engines, directories, publicity websites etc. Do they find you, or you find them?

They find me. I would like to pursue clients, but I want to do it right and to plan it takes more time than I have right now.

Since I do mostly cd covers and hang out with a lot of musicians then they pretty much find me. Usually, I work it into the conversations that I have with them that I just completed so and so's project. I also make sure to go to the cd release parties. Usually, they'll give me kudos from the stage and then my business has been announced to a bunch of people, a lot of whom are in my target audience!!!

I also sent out several cold call emails to companies very specific to my target audience. After Katrina, I emailed a lot of New Orleans/Gulf Coast record labels and offered my services at a reduced rate to help keep them afloat until they could find their regular designers. It was a nice thing to do and it has paid off. They've told several musicians who have come to me as a result. I felt pretty good about it cause they knew I wanted them to get back to their designers asap but would still help in the interim. It made me look good and when they get any overflow, I have no doubt they'll send it to me! I'd rather do something like that than pay for an ad or something.
