So I just got Flash 8 professional, after a 5 year absence from using flash, and pretty much web design in general. I downloaded some templates from flash foundry, and I'm in over my head at the moment. I dont have a clue how to edit a lot of the elements in these newer high end sites.

I am/was able to do full sites in flash, simple actionscripting and manipulation, but not much more. Anyone have some books to reccomend, or tutorials?

Flash MX 2004 (I know it's not 8, but it's what I've got) Beyond the basics was pretty solid, this was a Lynda book. Gets past the animation and drawing principles and more with working with actionscript and movie clips to get what you want.

glad those helped. I thought they were pretty excellent myself, especially being free.

I didnt like Lynda's book. There were absolutely no "steps" on how to do things. They explain how to do techniques using only tutorials. It gets really confusing when your following their steps and they are using their own files and you are using your own. I hated them.

I like the Visual Quickstart Guides. I have thats eries for Illy, PS, DW, and Flash. Very helpful IMO. They use a lot of pictures and explain steps AND have examples.

OK, or don't use Lynda's, whatever.

I loved the lynda's beginning Flash book. I thought it was a good read and was even able to read it after a while and play the steps in my head with out following the recipe on the computer. We all have different ways of learning. . . Learnflash.com is good basics and is something you can watch. Another way I like to learn.

Just go with what is best for you. . .

watching videos is the best for me. So learnflash.com and swinburne were the best. I've gotten my flash skills up again so thats nice. work has been busy with clients lately, so I havent had much time to put the new actionscripting skills to use but maybe I'll do that today, since its a relatively slow friday. (finally we get one!)
