of course it is! it's hard to say much because it's plainly very rough right now, but you've got to keep working on it in order to make anything of it at all, right?

so, the first thing i would suggets is making the focus of your attention - the figure & text - larger and 'finish' them. people won't want to have to hunt for the point of the flyer, right? once that's done, you can start changing colours or text or font or whatever, if you even need to. but you've got to keep going on it.

updates!!!

:)

i got my mojo workin' but it just don't work on you...

are you tracing from photos??? or is this straight from your head???? the woman needs hair and she looks 'butch'..... does this have to be a realistic figure??? or can it be a silolette??

your getting better keep at it....

well its supposed to be cartoonish, and the girl is supposed to give off a tom boyish effect. i think i am going to add a soccer goal just behind the girl and add the finishing touches on her face body etc. thanks for the help. and perm i toke dfrags advice on this one , and used a simple black and white clip art and made it my own. i am soo impressed by the other guys pam anderson illustration , i am going to do something like that next for my own independent project.

My advise would be to start over.....sorry, but it dosnt look that great, all you have achived with the cartoonish effect is makeing it look like you cant draw....mabye if you got a refernce photo and traced over it in illustrator, and not make so jagged lines with the stroke....the clouds are very hard with a generic gradient in it, and the fade on the horizon line is way too much...but if you are sticking with that, clean up the figure the best you can, mabye make it bigger because there is alot of negative space and it just looks like the figure is 'there' and not incorperated with the flyer....I would also try to make the ball look more like a ball instead of just red text in a circle...and if thats the best illustration you can do on the computer, you might want to think about hand drawing it and then scanning it in the computer.....I understand this is just for a local thing, but you asked for advise so there ya go lol ( but at least your not useing stock photos, its all your work so thats a good thing dude, just needs to be cleaned up in my opinion )

hey thanks for the reply zartan, the pic i am working with in illustrator has no jaggies cause i always clean up my work with the round tool. i noticed that too when i saved it with medium quality, cause this is not a final so i just saved it anyhow ole way to get you guys opinion. I think i am going to stick to what i am doing, and just make this baby better than it is. i am a designer, its my job to make something out of nothing, its what we do :)

i second what zartan posted. the current illustration needs major work to, well, work. also, speaking from a woman who is a tomboy, there is no 'typical' tomboy image. we come in all shapes and sizes. and to portray them as big perm? stated, butch, just doesn't register. besides, i don't know of many women that play soccer, that are butch. soccer is a physically demanding sport and most people are in excellent shape. butch implies stockiness, and there aren't many stocky soccer players.

here is a question

does the main portion of the flyer have to be done in illustrator....

it looks full color so why not just use photos????

Wayne: Our enemy is wicked, so...
J.D.: Dude, she's Freddy Krueger.
Wayne: Damien.
J.D.: Dude, she's Vader.
Wayne: No! She's the Emperor.
J.D.: Yeah, but with really great ****.

I agree with BP on using the photo. I think that a photo used as the main portion of this poster would look alot better than making the most prominent thing the vector that you have. If you don't want to use a stock photo, then go out and shoot some of your own maybe :o) I know that sometimes we get an idea and we love it and worked hard on and wanna stick with it to make it work but sometimes we have to sacrifice our 'grand idea' to get to where the piece needs to be. I know that for a fact since it happened with me and my Coastal Carousel logo www.coastalcarousel.com (http://www.coastalcarousel.com) EXAMPLE: In that logo I had drawn a carousel horse in Illustrator that I was determined to use in the logo. But - there was no place for it, it was a no go and in the end the logo didn't need it and it looks great now.

If you do go with what you have started with, I would drop the gradient out. Do something else with the background. Post updates so we can see please :o)

yeah, what makes the coastal carousel logo work is it's simplicity. sometimes we try a bit too hard and make things more complex than they should be.

Right 3howards!!

I think using some stock photography on this poster and playing with transparencies and typography would be really cool. What kind of information do you have to put on the poster? How much text are we lookin at here? Just curious :oP
