Clipping paths to Illustrator CS creating HUGE files

Could someone please tell me how to make a clipping path in Photoshop and bring it into an Illustrator file without making the Illustrator file HUGE? Is there a way of flattening this or compressing it in Illustrator? And how can I ensure the person receiving the file wont be missing the clipping path images?

1. Are you embedding the image in Illustrator as well as the clipping path?
That would make the file huge (not to mention very difficult to apply a profile to said image for printing).
Keep the image linked. Just remember to send the link when printing.

2. If you just want the clipping path, in Photoshop go to File>Export paths to Illustrator. You have to make sure the path you made is a work path in the Paths palette first though.

3. Check the number of bezier nodes on your path. If you set your photoshop tolerance too tight, every little pixel jag gets translated to the path and illustrator (let alone the output device) can only handle so many of those points.

Okay, how do you link a file? and embed a file? I'm new to this stuff.
(I only use Illustrator to illustrate)
Step by step, can you take me through doing a clipping path in Photoshop to placing it in Illustrator? WIthout making the file huge?
