I am looking to create a logo for my clothing company:
'Some Follow'
and have hit a wall with the the logo design.
Its always harder i find designing for yourself!
anyway feedback if you please!
I dont want it to be too readable, i know that sounds weird but i want the brand to be one of those 'if you know, you know..' kind of things.
hence the name 'some follow'...(others lead).
cheers!

Try adding some contrast to it. For exemple add a dark yellow on 2-3 bars.

the colours will change a fair bit depending on what the logo appears on. im more after getting the shape itself right, if you see what i mean.
some follow ... and some start over from scratch.

I can see that you used the rectangle tool for this. I guess it needs more carving away, very basic shapes, uninteresting, and hard too read. adding some curves in the right spots would help. More contrast between the shapes needed, definately. This would be a design that depends heavily on the negative (white) space around the letter shapes, so pay close attention to that, make those white spaces interesting and smooth flowing. Its got the start of a trendy look, but needs much more refining. You might want to consider getting a font that has similar shape like that http://www.dafont.com has a lot of fonts with a similar feel to the shapes you are using. Good Luck.

I don't like how the E is stretched out that much. I should take up the same space as 1 of the other letters. I know you are trying to make it square up with FOLLOW, but it's not working. I would make the E look like a normal E - then you got 3 E shapes: M, E & W
You could play with this fact too...

On "follow" I would make the l's a bit wider so that each of the l's take up at lease half the space of the o's. The E is way to stretched out. The way it is now is unballanced.
Right now all that pops out to me is "So Fo"

I think you should try a perfect circle of people walking and name it some follow.

SHEEEEEEEP!
the typographic solution doesn't seem to be working and I don't see why you'd choose a purely typographic solution when your name really lends itself to some great iconic solutions. Sheep for example... or even better a wolf in sheeps clothing (or even vice versa for some humour) That way you've got the follow aspect (and the breaking of it) AND the clothing aspect.
baaaaa.

I think the logo is quite uninteresting and hard to read.
I would use a graphic as well instead of just using text.. I agree with mac fin.

i think you should only print on the back of tshirts... never on the front

ta,
the logo is supposed to be hard to read. I get the thing about the E being to stretched, that is a good point.
I dont really want an obvious image logo, like a Sheep, or whatever. Not really a big fan of image logos.
anyway, cheers!

It sounds like you were interested on approval instead of critique ;)
If I were you, I'd do the typography in photoshop, as pixels. Then I would convert that to vectors. that way it'll have a modular harmony (of course you'd have to do some fixing, so what is square looks square)
On a positive side: The logo would be easy to stamp or knit (is knit the word?) on etiquettes and stuff.
Good luck

really i cant talk cos im learning myself but
hard to read hmm WHY i really liked the idea about a wolf in sheeps clothing very very interesting idea that i thought and the idea of "some follow others lead"
isnt some follow the worst in that case seems its back to front
but it he e is done like budfist says and the L is made bigger that type could work
if you have it hard to read people want know there buying your stuff ???

It looks like your about 12 yo and playing with paint on your comp, trying to make letters out of blocks, bland, boring and unskilled.
Id start again too from scratch.. but im new so not the best judge

Wow, blunt. If you're new to the forum you might want to be more constructive.
I don't think it was an awful start, but I think it's just that, a start. One option. I'd be curious to see if you have otehr sketches and other options than this one.
It sounds as if you've pretty much already selected this option and you just wanted approval. I think you have an interesting name (some follow) and I think your mark can be more original as well. Do you have sketches?

I would go back to the drawing board.
Here is a technique... thumbnails, make 25 of em...it should be challenging, but, after you do it, you will have worked out many initial problems or stumbled onto something better...
Variety man, thats what you need, that type treatment is no good as is.

When designing for your t-shirts it doesn't have to be complex....sean jean is just a cursive font across the shirt and roca-wear was just about the same. I think the only problem most are having with your logo/design is that it really doesn't represent creativity in a font. If that is what you are leaning for....then boooya!, you have got it.
Someone earlier mentioned adding some curves....(good point)
Another mentioned making the E look like the M and the W.....(good point)
Another mentioned bland, boring, and unskilled....(jerk) - try and suggest somthing next time other than just running his design into the ground H4RRY....
Wow, blunt. If you're new to the forum you might want to be more constructive.
I disagree - this design needs to be scrapped, sometimes you need to take the kiddie gloves off and tell it how it is.

It's not a matter of whether it needs to be scrapped, but offering constructive criticism. Having someone jump on the band wagon and saying (basically), "it sucks, start over" doesn't help at all (or saying that they're 12 years old.)
I agreed that it needed to be rethought, but I asked if they had some other sketches or options so that we could in general provide better feedback.
He did not call him a 12 year old, he compared his skill level to a 12 year old.
trying to make letters out of blocks, bland, boring and unskilled.
Blunt but true.
Id start again too from scratch.
Again, blunt but true
Too many people critique with kiddie gloves on this forum - it's a nice change of pace to see a critique that does not mince words. Keep callin' em like you see em harry.

are kiddie gloves kid gloves for children? Little goat skin gloves made from little goats for little people.
I like the mention a while back about using sheep as a point of inspiration for this logo

Nobody is forcing you to read these "kiddie gloves" critiques MD. You have been around here long enough to know that is not our style and you also know where to go to read all the "truthful" critiques you can stomach. Too many people think a critique is a license to be an ass_hole. We don't like that here. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other forums you can visit.
