ok, so i've finally gotten to a point where i have a couple extra dollars to get some cool business cards printed. i've played around with lots of different concepts and here's what i have now. (w/ dummy text)
the style i'm going for is simple, classy and modern.
i'm not sure about the stock. right now, i think a bright white, perhaps w/ a slight texture. maybe a translucent stock?
as for ink, i think it would be simplest and cleanest to go for just a flat, matte ink on all of it, but i wonder how using raised text and/or embossing might affect the style.
i haven't discussed it w/ the printer yet, so i'm not sure what my options will be, but i want to get some ideas of what's out there before hand so i can know what to ask.

needs something still. Not sure if the design is strong enough for a white bg. Have you tried reversing it? Try the big pd in white and have the gray in the bg. Maybe it's the font...something is just weak about the design.
Keep going with it.
Personally, I like the pd in your avatar a lot better than the pd on the card.

i do too, but i'm not sure how the fine strokes will translate to a business card.
after looking at this a little more i see where you and dyers are coming from. i feel like typography is one of my strongest skills so i want to convey that in my biz card and this one really isn't doing that.

I like white space to add drama, but I feel it's just too plain. Keep working on it!
I think that you could get the fine strokes to work, prolly not the gradient though.

there's no gradient on it, though i guess it kinda looks like that on here because the strokes get really fine... i'll try another version when i get home using that one though
ok, so i took riya's advice and reworked my card w/ the logo from my avatar (had to tweak it some too). i want a very simple card which is why i've stuck w/ the white background. i looked into the printer's options and i think i'm gonna go w/ an extra heavy bright white matte stock and plain ole offset printing w/ full bleed. the two colors i'm torn between are tiffany blue and tangerine, though i'm leaning towards the blue.

(i'm not sure why the phone number on the second card looks like it has a heavier font; it's actually the same as the email, but my pshop does funny things w/ pdfs apparently)
another idea i had, which will be mostly determined by cost, is a 2 sided card w/ the pd in a color on one side and not as prominent on the other side. i've mocked it up in both of the color schemes.

If you are trying to show that typography is one of your strongest skills - you have missed the mark. Myriad is the default font in most of the Adobe programs and is overused in every cookie cutter web 2.o logo. Your logo is not very strong - it lacks punch and looks like you threw it together in 5 mins. (both versions) I love white space, but your initials sloppily thrown on a page is not strong enough to carry the design.
Start by creating a strong identity and build your business card around that. You have to crawl before you can walk. My suggestion is to bust out your sketch pad and get the creative juices flowing - Creating an identity for yourself is one of the hardest things you ever have to design, there are many threads and designers on this forum that can attest to that. Start a new logo thread to bounce some ideas around, I know for a fact you can come up with something a lot more dynamic with those initials. Good luck.

I like the 2 sided option better. Your logo needs the white space around. Now for the side with details how about you do away with you logo completely?
