I have a bit of a problem thats really giving me a headache!
Ok, i am putting together a display stand graphic which is 3,600mm wide by 900mm down and then split into 6 equal panels of 600mm wide.

It generally consists of 1 main graphic which spreads right across the entire
artwork. The trouble i'm getting is i can import the main picture at about 90cm wide @ 300 pixels per inch but any bigger than that then freehand says that the exact same file "Is not the right kind of document, or it says cannot be placed off the paste board (which it blatantly isn't big enough to).

Do you think it would be ok to increase the graphic up in freehand rather than using photoshop, it lets me do this ok but i would rather do it in the source file and import it @100%.

I'm not sure if there are any known issues in doing this but any help would be appreciated thanks.

What kind of file is it? Tiff, eps, psd? RGB or CMYK?
It sounds like you might have the Image set to 16 bits/channel...resave it to 8 bits/channel. (Image Mode->8 bits/channel)

The types of file i'm trying to import out tiffs (RGB) Jpegs (RGB) tried both with CMYK and thats when it starts to get weird. Basically it seems that when it get over a certain file size freehand starts playing up. I never had this problem with FH9 it basically let me import what i wanted within reason.

Freehand MX has its' limitations.

You don't necessary have to print your work at 300dpi judging at the size. Infact I often print such sizes in dpi less than 72dpi.

But if you really have to print exact in 300dpi. The only way out I know is to use Illustrator instead.

When I was using MX I would work on the artwork at half the print size. So if I had a 8' x 4' banner I would set it up an 4' x 2' and then the printer would res it up. MX does have it's problems working with large files. Any way you can use Illustrator? I haven't ever had a problem with large files using it.
