Hi Caddyman, you have interesting work. However, it would be easier if you posted a little at a time and gave info on what the client's company does and what the purpose of your design is, that way you get a more constructive crit.

Oh ok thanks! im sorry but im used to non-graphics forums......lol
actually this is the only graphics forum im on, i stay on Admin sites and nextel sites where people just make a kind of "show-off" thread.
But you have a good point and if i do want a critique ill be sure to make a new thread for it.
thanks!

Not to be the typical devil, but does anyone else think that the feathers in the 'sig' might qualify as copyrighted.
yeah does look awfully familiarizationed.

It's safer to stay away from copyrighted images.
Think up other ways to present your favoured feather element *winks*.

And besides... if you need to represent a graphic design group using the very same feathers you can see on photoshop... that doesn't speak very good of you, does it? I mean, it's graphic design we are talking about, we are trained to come up with original and relevant images to represent what is needed to represent.
So, grab that pen&paper and start scribbling something :)

I don't think the outline of the feather is close enough for problems...it has more breaks than the PS feather. Either way I agree with DrummerHead.

wow, i do agree with you all, please understand I have never had formal training, never picked up a book, and this is the 1st gfx forum i have joined, so this is kinda why i didnt even think about all that......
thanks for the advice and i will be reworking it sooner than later. I have only been making money on this stuff for about 6 months if that, i do it more for fun than anthing. and that sig is about 1 week old...literally

Caddyman, I think it would be better if you put graphic design on that sig instead of graphics design.
Does graphics design bother anybody else? I'm not sure if its just my personal preference or if there is a definite right and wrong way to put it. I always say graphic design and also noticed everyone in this thread referring to graphic design termed it graphic design.

I fully agree with you cornfed....when the "s" on graphic is in play then design should be designer.....Lets try it together.....
graphics designer
or
graphics design
What corn is trying to say is that "s" could make one read this as graphic's design.....oooohhhh that is not cool....is your name graphic? nooooo
I will be quiet now!:D

Chase,
I think for a total beginner, with no training, not bad, at all. You have a good intuitive sense of placement and proximity.
I totally understand what you mean by just doing this for fun, which would basically fall under educational purposes. But it does look tacky to us working designers to use the feathers of the most recognized graphic program in the world. The one that pretty much all of us use. So I really would suggest to just do a quick change. How about go for some flourishes (http://www.dafont.com/wm-designs-1.font) instead? I think you will have the natural ability to know the use of placement with them.

Are we talking about an older photoshop feather...because it looks nothing like CS2's feather. Ok Ok Ok...it looks like it is in the same sitting position as the CS2 feather, but it doesn't look anything like it! Chase's feather has too many breaks (if you know what I mean)!

Does this mean I can never use a feather again!!!!? also, does it mean I can never use a rock shaped like a mountain because of purdential real estate company.....
mmmmmmmmmmmm......look to my signature!

my feather is from 7.0 or 8.0 see this is the deal...lol
cs2 is too big for my pc at home so i use CS
i cant install crap on my work pc so i use a portable veriosn on 8.0 (i belive) and thats where i got the feather from........
thats it, and i will change it..........thanks guys

it looks like you typed something in photoshop and added a drop shadow and a stroke. You need a designer. this is your buisness you're talking about, do you really want to risk a shotty logo just because you dont want to invest in a quality one? if you care about this buisness enough to be concerned about the logo's quality then get some professional help. If not just use your type logo. Your spacing is too tight.

whoa thanks for the pointers there, ummm i think my work is just fine, and certainly better than the stock options we have when setting up a VBulletin board. Thats what i spend most of my time on is setting up forums, not graphics, graphics is somethign i do for fun and if im lucky sometimes a get paid for it. Thanks for the tips though.
