Im redesigning our rugby league teams logo..... I dont think we`ll be using it, but just wanted something to do. Out of a few sketches I have come up with this so far. It will be in the team colours when ive got something im happy with.
Could you please give me your thoughts as I think the wing looks a little wierd, maybe I should disjoint it? and is the head a bit too big?
We are called the Wortley Dragons.

For a rugby team (fellow rugger here) I don't think it looks sinister enough. Seems to me that the dragon is smiling. I have seen a slip art image that looks very similar to what you have drawn. It was a bit larger and had a bit more emphasis on the tail as well.

I think that it either needs a 'body' incorporated in or a few less points coming out of the wings. I am distracted by them as you follow it towards the tail.

Good start!

Thanks for your comments, should I start again as I wanted to get away from the clip art, as our original is very clip arty I think....... To say we payed a fortune for it!
How can I make it look less clip arty?

How about this one, I did this a few months back when I first starting to use Illustrator, but didnt think it would work in a logo?

I like the first one.
Try making the tail and body bigger/longer.
Maybe open up the mouth and draw in some teeth for a more fierce look.

I prefer the first one too, the other was just something I drew in Illustrator for a bit of practice. Thanks, I shall have a look at the body what about adding a claw "grabbing" at the front maybe that will help to bulk it out

That might work... You would probably have to add more bulk to the tail then to maintain a sense of balance.

It's a good start but here are a few things to help you out.

the points follow the contour of the wing - makes it looks like it is feathered. the points are also sloppy in between points. Adjust the anchors manually, don't just take what illustrator gives you.

Change the eye to make it meaner looking. Maybe round the back end or thin it out to give a sense of determination, tenacity

make body longer and tail a bit bigger like riya suggested

kinda reminds me of Tyger's business logo

I think if you made the wing slightly smaller, Elongated the body, made the head slightly larger and added an arrow type point to the tail it would look awesome ... with some...
embelishments.. etc..

This might be a silly question, but as Ive said many times before im new to design... Is there an easyier way than re drawing the whole logo to put in the points suggested?

What about this?
I think the head is an improvement, and also looks better larger.

thats much better, and yes there is an easier way to adjust the points other then redrawing it. grab the white arrow in illustrator, and adjust your bezier curves until you get the look you are going for.

How does the body look? How about a claw inbetween the body and head

Try adding some legs in a poised clawing position. Think of how an eagle would look catching a fish with its claws from the water and try to emulate that. I think that might suggest movement.

Thats the image i have in my head, its just getting it on to paper that im finding hard!

How about with a claw at the bottom?

I would bring the claw a bit higher up. It looks like a monstrous weiner...

LOL!

maybe make the lower body bigger and then put it in a different place... maybe make the "fingers" more elongated.

A few slight changes to the claw, im happy with the top half of the dragon (head and wing)

the dragon has an implied S...

is that relevent or important at all? cause if so...you lose it with the claw

VoodooChild

No the S is of no importance, I was just following Picas (or strong bads) dragon drawing guide. lol

If it is for a rugby team i think the dragon should have cauliflower horns.

I prefer the second one. Now its just the hard part (incorporating it into some sort of badge). And finding a good font to go with it

Even though we are based in the UK, im looking to take inspiration from American sports clubs, ie not having it in a circle/oval (coat of arms type). For this does the dragon need more detail than it all ready has?
