This has happened to me before, but I can't remember what I did to fix it.

I have a file. On this file is text (not area type, with a box, but just click and type). I want to duplicate the text and change the words. Normally, I would just select the text, make sure the move tool is selected, press the "option" key (I'm on a mac) and drag a copy. For some reason, when I press the option key, the cursor changes to two arrows (black & white), but when I drag the text, it doesn't make a copy. Has anyone had this problem, and how do you fix. I know it's something easy, but I can't remember how I fixed it last time! Thanks for your help.

The only thing that comes to mind is if it or the layer it was on was locked, but I'm assuming neither of those are the case.

check for OS updates... I have that problem every once in a while too. Not able to zoom or use the hand tool with the quick keys. If that doesn't help, I'm not sure?!

I vaguely remember that we had trouble here at work using quick keys and certain tools because of a conflict with Norton Anti-virus. We just diasbled Norton (which we're not worried about) and things seem better. I think there may have also some conflict with MS Office as well. Get the latets patches and see if it helps.

It's weird because I can click on the text, apple>c, apple>v it to duplicate it, just can't drag a copy. All updates have been done. Any other ideas?

highlite watever it is your duplicating, move it, (dont deselect it) then hit ctrl+d and it should work.
