I was recently asked for a bit of a favor. I was asked to design a logo for an R/C airplane club....this logo will be used in both correspondence and on the new website that ill be designing for them as well.

My boss is into RC type stuff and he asked me to do it for him...

he asked for something more simple than complex...and something that wasnt a p51 mustang as that seems to be the biggest cliche in the RC world.

I was less than thrilled to be working on something that wasnt work related but this has turned out to be a bit of a fun project for me

I think overall I am there...but theres something I am not seeing and cant figure out that I am unsatisfied with....

ideas?

I am not much of an RC person (anymore) but this plane just doesn't say RC to me. Also, the plane is for a RC airplane club and I am unsure of that audience but wouldn't they like something more powerful! I read you are looking to do simple, but that is too simple. Do something creative with the plane that would make RC people like it!

The illustration is nice - I think the type needs some reworking. It's just kind of stuck on to the right. It doesn't fit well.

Try some different type solutions and see if that doesn't help.

I also think you might have problems if this gets reduced in size ot print on a business card or a pen or some similar item. Even thoguh they might not need it for eithr of those options now, they might in the future.

Personally, I like it being clean (which it is) and not a heavy, cluttered logo

Maybe it can be the RC controller, or maybe something like an old wwii era squadron logo.

Looks very similar to the $200 rc we got my son two years ago, flew one time and crashed!! Seriously, I like it. I think you could work a little antenna into the type.

Antenna! That would be more RC to me!

I like it, I just think that the plane needs a bit more detail. It looks too simplified to me. The cool thing about models is that they are so intricate in detail. Would be nice to see this here.

I like the concept. The thing that throws me off is the font. I don't think it works with this type of treatment. The gray plane seems dull, if it were black it would jump out of the page. A bit of detail in selected spots might make it really appear like and RC plane. And I love the antenna idea.

behold!

Detail!

No I am not finished...just thought I would share progress...i have a few perspective things I need to work out...I am thinking about the font treatment

If you guys seen any grievous errors at this point...lemme know.

yes...i have a source image that im working from...but im going out of my way to make it look more toyish as opposed to the beast of a warplane that it is

Light reflections off the cockpit would help immensely. That's been bothering me with it. Otherwise, I think the added detail helps.

that is actually a reall good idea...but

this is the 'i dont know what the hell im doing' coming out in me...

but where would i put a reflection on a window that is flat shaded?

lol, I was just thinking that the color you're using for the body of the ship, use that for a reflection (that way if you ever had to reverse out the logo for just b/w, that would fill in negative space and it would look evident that it's a glass reflection). I'm not talking a gradient effect or anything; just use a solid shape that plays off the shape of the cockpit. Man if I had an example I'd just show you, but I don't.

oh i got what you were saying...use a solid shape...

but its like....with flat shading...there is no hints of light direction...so where would i put the 'reflection'...

im not being a smartass...im ginuinely asking cause i honestly dont know...i dig the idea..

ill play with it tomorrow...im burned out for now

IMHO, I'd say on the physical right side (our left) of the cockpit window, right before it meets the top of it and have it stretch the length of that side of the cockpit. It would give it some definition, and instead of making the cockpit seem like an empty hole, it adds a bit of depth.

Looks nice, definitely helps the cockpit, as far as the back though, looks like it just needs a tweak here or there.

Plane is looking hot! :D

I do prefer the original font you used though. It looke stronger and more tech IMO.

I like this newer version a lot better. Keep tweaking it. It's getting there.
