How do I fit type into an object by warping the type? Is there a quick and easy way?
I have posted a poster from the 60`s and a quick image I have done. I originally wanted something like what I have done but stumbled upon the poster.

You can do it (sorta) with an AI distortion grid. The 60's poster was done in hand, and it's hard, if not impossible to get the same effect purely with computer power.

I have done some similar things to the '60s poster by warping individual lines and groups of lines. I often need to use a fairly simple blocky typeface to start off, then as I am finishing, I tweak elements, points and lines to get the desired look.

You can use the envelope distort function in illusttrator. Type your text out, then draw the shape (or import the shape) that you want to use as the base. make sure that shape is on top. Then choose Object > envelope distors > make with top layer. Voila! The text is now curvy. It's a good place to start. Here's what I did in 2 minutes.

Thanks for that, looks like i`ll have to have a play around with it to get my desired effect, but its a great start!

Yup the best most efficient way.

I don't wanna make a new topic on my question, so I just post it here. How can you get text to get inside an object (with no distortion or having to cut the text)? An example I found:

Here's one way
Draw the circle. Select it.
Use your Area Type Tool in the tool bar (hold click the type tool its the second one)
Hover your cursor over any part of the shape and Type. You will have to
hit return in areas.
You may have to be creative in making the text go around the square I haven't figured flowing the text around the square as well as you cannot use the Area Type tool on clipping masks etc. But you can get the circle.

You can use a Text Wrap (or "runaround") on the square, after you've set the text inside the circle using the Area Type method.

If you're using Illy, which seems to be the consensus :), then there's a tutorial by Mordy Golding on the Adobe site that may be helpful, called "Working with Tools of Mass Distortion"(!):

cool.
I just never had to use it in Illy. Usually a quark thing.
