Hi, I'm new to the forums, hope someone can help.
I'm creating a postcard in Indesign- my problem is with a logo that someone else has designed- I've used the psd and tiff files, but when it comes print time, the logo is still looking a bit fuzzy- does anyone have any guidance? TiA.

What is the resolution of the PSD and Tif files? What are you printing on and what type of machine?

psd is 72 ppi- its being outsourced for the final print, at the moment printing to laser printer (sorry- I'm emailing it to someone, not sure of the laser details) thanks so much!

72 ppi would give you a low res image. The logo will be fuzzy if you scaled it up at all. Most PSD or TIF files that are to be printed should be 300 dpi or higher depending on how it is being printed. Without more info I am at a loss.
Was the image scaled up in InDesign?

No- kept it at original- 72 ppi was what the designer of the logo had the original at. Best way to up the res? (sorry for the basic questions- I really appreciate your help!)

Well, you would need to post the image so we could take a look at it. The first response is... you shouldn't 'res it up' like some people want to do. It should always be designed at a higher res and THEN brought down if need be.
Can it be redrawn in Illustrator or can you get a higher res version from the designer?
What you do NOT want to do is just change the res from 72 to 300. It won't do much of anything except make the size larger and a bit more blurred.

ahh, you read my mind.. I was in the process of res-ing it up.. I'll post the image, forgive my noob-ness, but how? I can't put it on line (curses, working from home!)

72dpi is crap for print. Is resetting it an option?
Post it and we'll have a look see.

Sure you can... you can post to imageshack.us or photobucket as a jpeg so we can see what you are working with. Just copy and paste one of the URL links and paste it in here.

Do you have a vector based program like Illustrator or Corel Draw? This would be one you could redraw and make it vectored. Right now unless you get a better file from the artist or redo it, you are stuck with a poor image.
The font on the bottom is a version of Futura Medium or Futura Condensed and the 'e' in the triangle looks like Times New Roman Italic with a minor rotation or perspective change.

OK, pardon the rudeness, but what kind of a designer would a) Design THAT in Photoshop and not Illustrator...and b)design at 72 dpi?!
I guess if the designers doesn't have Illustrator, and only has Photoshop, but why 72 dpi?!

Is it possible that the PSD file still has the type as editable vector artwork? And is the gradient triangle a rasterized image or is it a vector shape.
If everything is still in vector format (i.e. editable type and shape), you should be able to res it up without any shift in quality. But I'm guess that it isn't, since otherwise it wouldn't come out fuzzy on the laser.
Just a thought, however. :)
