Hello everyone!

Here is some signage options I've put together for a local gaming store. They wanted a 'celtic 'O'' in the text 'Ravenstone Games.' The person who originally did their logo never gave them the vector artwork, so all they've got is what's on their website. (http://www.ravenstonegames.com)

Here's what I have done. They wanted something 'very similar' to their exsisting logo... but of course needed it to be vector so they can do outdoor signage.

Comments?

It's so hard to do a 'celtic 'O'' that doesn't look like crap when made smaller. :icon_cry:

I like the 3rd set down, #1, or #2. Great job on these, looks like a tough project....I suck at celtic stuff.

Words to live by:
Sonny: Alright, listen to me. You pull up right where she lives, right? Before you get outta the car, you lock both doors. Then, get outta the car, you walk over to her. You bring her over to the car. Dig out the key, put it in the lock and open the door for her. Then you let her get in. Then you close the door. Then you walk around the back of the car and look through the rear window. If she doesn't reach over and lift up that button so that you can get in: dump her.
Calogero: Just like that?
Sonny: Listen to me, kid. If she doesn't reach over and lift up that button so that you can get in, that means she's a selfish broad and all you're seeing is the tip of the iceberg. You dump her and you dump her fast

Wayne: Our enemy is wicked, so...
J.D.: Dude, she's Freddy Krueger.
Wayne: Damien.
J.D.: Dude, she's Vader.
Wayne: No! She's the Emperor.
J.D.: Yeah, but with really great ****.

You could try actually changing the image when it's made smaller - I mean have 2 versions of the logo. Like people do with icons.

I think I like the first one using the first celtic thing. The others seem a little too busy. /emoticons/cool.gif

I think I prefer the first design. With the next to last font. Looks awesome, no matter which one they choose.

How small are those little celtic elements going to be in that 'O' on the outdoor sign?
Doing it in vinyl or cut 3D something?
Ouch.
Don't wanna stifle creativity but the 3rd set icon is pretty intense. The smaller pieces of 1 and 2, not much less.
I'm not saying it can't be done, as it can. Vinyl is simple. 3D could get costly depending on the number of elements and color.

Does anyone else think the smaller cross looks like a target? Except for #3 that looks like a poker chip. Damn you ESPN World Series of Poker. Damn you.

I like the #4 font, but watch the kerning around your 'A's. Would they be opposed to putting the whole thing in a celtic element instead? That might look kinda cool and would help with PD's problem. Just a thought.

Off-topic, but duuuuude, you've been playing CS or something, haven't you? When I used to play this old game called Syndicate, I would see crosshairs on cars all the time. LOL http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/laugh.gif

Oooh Syndicate.
Dum, dee dum,
Dum Dee dum,
Dum dee Dum Dee dum dee dum.

I don't have a 'problem' with multiple elements or small stuff. It's just that sometimes when things get real tiny, the integrity of the design suffers in the translation to Parts.

I definately like the first Icon the best. I would go with #2 in the first set. I think that heavier font is good for this. If you have a light font then all you see is the icon and you look right over the name.

I have to agree with PD on the 3rd icon behing too complex for vinyl. I had to do a vinyl sign here for my boss for a business he has in Panama and I had to keep it fairly simple. It's not that it CAN'T be done...it just that it will cost you more (or the person you are doing it for) more in the end to get the signage done because of the smaller more intricate elements....from what I was told by the printer here. :o)

Small isn't what kills you. It's how many colors, traps and layers.

It's going to be done in vinyl and the 'O' is going to be 2 & 1/2' tall.

I'm totally with D-zine. Number 2 from set 1. I think the others would be too hard to read while driving by.

Well, I have a few changes to make to 'O' #1, but that's generally the one they're going with, second font down. Thanks for all the comments guys!

I'll post the changes once they're complete.

Solcjoye - The font is Bouwman Uncial. Don't remember where I got it though... probably on one of the 500 font CDs I own.

Oh, and the sign is going to be carved & painted. Black is going to be carved/raised wood, then the white is going to be painted on top (may be a different color too - white, green or blue).

1st set, 4th one down - reads well, with the thickness of the 'o' and the font.
Does this have to be a long name ?
Couldnt you have there name underneath a logo which comrimises of an 'o' and there name around it.

Finalized! They're still not sure which color combo they're going to go with, but this is the finalized design with color combos.

Personally, I think the 'O' is a bit too busy for business card size but they like it so what can ya do. Right?

Oh, it's all going to be painted by some local sign company. I've been working with them to make sure I'm not giving them an impossible mission. Since they've given it the thumbs up I think it'll turn out spiffily. ^_^

I like it Mad.
Glad to hear you are running everything by the sign painter too.
Should look cool.

That is a hell of a pattern you did there Madora. Good job but like you said it might get lost in a Business Card size.

Will do Holliday. I can't wait to see it up on their signage!
