I am having trouble doing halftoned color separations in illustrator 10. The program won't let me do it at all. Do I need to buy something extra from Adobe (maybe Adobe PS?). The part of Illustrator I need to get to is File>Separation Setup. I hope I'm explaining this correctly.

Hello mindjob, welcome to the forum. What is it you are trying to do? Please be specific. I have been in pre-press for many years and I have never used this feature. /emoticons/cool.gif

Kool, it sounds like he needs a ppd. I don't use this feature either.

Well... AI has halftone controls in the seperation setup but you must have a post script PPD driver to make it output the way you want. You define which PPD you are using and then you seperation output controls from printer halftone settings, lpi frequency, screen angles, emulsion, etc. Without defining a PPD you won't see any of those options as they will be all greyed out.

yep.
And if you don't have a postscript printer or rip, I don't think you can print those seps from Illy.
