A DJ hired me to create a personal promotion page for his DJing. This afternoon I put together the graphics and started coding the layout, CSS etc. There's no content yet...

(hosted in my webspace currently for testing).
note: the building behind him is a famous one in his hometown Birmingham (UK), so it was a nod to that.
Any thoughts before I progress? Thanks.

I like the colours you've got there. The white bar at the top with the website address in doesn't seem like it's needed. The contacy text above the content area would be better in actual text rather than an image, so people can cut and paste it if they want to, if you can live with it being in a web font. I'd make the DJ Euge text more prominent than the Contact text as it's the name of what you are selling to the viewer. I love the graphic you have with the DJ the records and the speaker. It's clear what the site is for and it's uncluttered. The buttons might need some work, maybe centering the text on them and having the square cornered buttons fitting with the rounded corner of the white area seems a bit awkward. I really like the colours.

There is only one word to describe such a site: amazing. That is very nice; the colors, the layout, everything. If I would change anything it would be the navigation, maybe but the green boxes inside the top white bar...very nicely done overall.

i know what you mean about the button shape. at the moment they're just table cells with CSS actions on them.
I thought about doing the contact info as web text, but there's a seperate contact page anyway and there'll be direct email hyperlinks elsewhere
As for centering text on the buttons, yuck. something i never like. Just me. lol.

as long as the email links are just if you click on text that is the actual email address, cos I go all "hulk smash" if I click on something that says contact and it tries to open up outlook.
If you hate the idea of centering the text then maybe making each button a size that fits the text that's on it.
Does the guy know what he's letting himself in for having his msn address out there for all and sundry to peck his head?

Right I've curved the buttons (except for one corner).
I don't like text centered on buttons, and I don't want all the buttons different sizes. just personal choice.
The MSN address: he set up a specific seperate account for that one. haha
Thanks for the input

I like the way it looks. The only niggle? On the buttons, can you increase the depth of the buttons just slightly so that the space below the descenders of the type is the same as it above the ascenders? Right now, they seem to be crashing into the bottom and almost fading into the white. I rather like that the type isn't horizontally centered in the buttons, but I think vertically centered would be acceptable. :) Or not.

Excellent work Mr Traska.
Not too sure about the box of 7" .... especially for house dj. I know it's only a detail but still.
Very cool...love your collage. Great job!

I agree with urst on centering the button text vertically. And I really think you should stick to having the contact info in the Contact-page. When people see the contact info on the first page, and can't copy it, the reaction won't to be looking for an alternative place to copy it, they'll type it themselves instead, or worse, not bother to. My thought: kill the contact info, and make his name and "title" much larger, and maybe make it go with the collage on the right. Very well done, by the way (Y)

The top white bar needs to go, it is a detraction to the whole page.
Using dreamweaver right? is there a way you can "not" use the image for the whole page background? What if you want more content then you can fit in the little white area that you have now?
Check with different resolution screens, I'm on a true widescreen at 1200x800 and the bottom of the page drops off. Plus I feel that if I go any higher in resolution I'm going to loose the navigation buttons all together.
The design itself is awesome. I opened it up and thought to myself that I need to be doing more designs like that. The ho-hum of living in midwest suburbia I guess.
good luck, it's a great start!

Thanks for everyone's input. I kind of agree about the contact info...I might work on replacing it with something else. Maybe a quote from him. It's up to him tho (the client) as that's what he originally specified.

I disagree. I think it helps balance the page so it doesn't appear bottom heavy. I've tried it without and don't like it as much. I like how it creates another "panel" between itself and the main content panel.

"next page" buttons.

how do you mean "drops off" ? The image extends infinitely to the right, and the bottom of the image fades to a colour that is set as the page BG colour.
Also, with regards to your screen res and loosing the nav buttons: It's still rare that people work at those screen resolutions and I have to design the site to work for as many possible viewing situations as possible.

Very very nice site.
I find the horizon you have on the back ground visually distractive.
