I'm in a Graphics Design and Visual Communications class at BOCES(Vocational Training School) And were on our second project. We have to make a personal logo in Adobe Illustrator that we will be putting on the bottom of all our work for the year, Here's mine: Theres a few minor details I'm going to be chaning but this is the general design of it.

I'm going to close the line on the bottom of the D, and increase the opacity of the boxes below the " i " so that it's more legibly an " i ".

Comments and critique welcome :D

Are these 2 separate designs?
What letters am I supposed to be looking for?
JDPI?

Maybe you should make the changes you plan to make. I'm not sure where the "i" is. I have my suspicions though.

I'm sorry, but I don't think the design makes up for it being hard to read. The combination of white with a stroke and hard dark blue don't go well together, and having those three extra colours don't add anything (if I got you right, you're making them solid blue?). Having type in cursive in a logo should have some reason, such as implying speed for an example. Having cursive on this logo don't serve a purpose at all? I really think you have to simplify this alot.

you might find it helpful to stick to plain black and white to make sure that the concept is strong before you add any color. It is a bit difficult to read right now.

What do you want people to think of when they look at your logo? I mean, what do you want them to associate with your company? That's a good place to start. I find it helpful to brainstorm words and then think about how to work those concepts into the logo.

I hope this is two different ideas because if they go together...STOP! You mention an "i", where!? Thumbnail, brainstorm, jot-it-down, scribble, and come up with a new idea. Think outside the box. You project is not to just do something simple, express yourself! If it is a personal logo for class, show us who you are....

The " i " is where the 3 shades are (That was the teachers idea actually I didn't like it). It's not supposed to be a 'cursive' it's more of a modern type I thought. and it's supposed to read "JDiP" I know the " i " is extremely hard to find. I actually had the top part of the white (where it's stroked) a solid colour like in the middle so it had a little cap on it and the teacher told me to do the stroke effect and I did it and i'm like "Ehh.. No" and shes all "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DON'T LIKE TI!" and im like "whatever..."

Here was my original design that I had sketched out:

One thing on the sketch that I couldn't get to work right on the design was that on the D I wanted the points to come meet the intersection into the "iP" but I couldn't get it to extend down that far so I went for the gradient (which I know looks like crud)

Does your logo have to be jdip or can it just be a self expressive mark? I don't see anything that tells me about "you" either except that you probably like blue. These letters aren't attractive. The thickness of the D is awkward, the J looks weird with part of the top being overly long and the i and the P are in their own little worlds. I don't mean that offensively, I mean it honestly. If you want JDip, then there are a lot of other ways to do that too! Off the top of my head, I picture a ladle shaped like a j dipping into something. Just cutting out the J and D leaves you with a J and P letter combination. There are a ton of solutions - that was crappy examples, but you get the idea. Relax and brainstorm!

:P Okay I'll see what I can thikn up over the weekend. I was just looking to do something simplistic. I'll brainstorm over the long 3 day weekend :P

Mmmm....there's nothing attractive about the shape these letters make. Think of a concept first and then try to illustrate this.
