Take a look at the following logos I've sketched for a friend of mine. It's a 2 man business with several big clients. They mainly work with Coldfusion and provide outsourcing solutions. It's called seedwiki and the preferred colors are green, green and green.

I remember he told me he likes the FedEx logo, in which an "invisible" arrow is formed between the letters E and x. Another arrow seems to appear from the right side of x. He said it was neat and that he likes "subtle s h i t". I told him thats pretty hard to do.

Well, Im ready to be humbled. Your advice will be appreciated.

Could you explain in simple words what outsourcing is? Wikipedia didn't help me much. So many hard words. :/ It would make it easier for me to see what you've been thinking.

Well, Peder, from the website I cited above (seedwiki), here is how they address themselves:

Seed wiki is a company that offers both a simple way to put content on the web and a development platform that you can use to build your own applications. What we offer and how it works is based on our ideas about how people communicate and work together?

The site is a little disorganized, but they're not designers, they're programmers and they are very professional in what they do.

And from the wikipedia, you only need this info, the first paragraph:

Outsourcing (or contracting out) is often defined as the delegation of non-core operations or jobs from internal production within a business to an external entity (such as a subcontractor).

Hope that helps. Thanks for the reply.

P.S.: Nice gallery by the way ;)

I think your type treatment is really holding your design back.

The tree one has some potential, but it is not quite there yet.
Kill the officina sans, I don't think it is working.
Try thinning out the border and maybe add some white detail to the tree.

The rest of them I don't like at all.
They all have tracking issues, the ee's are out of place and the fern one is just kinda blah.

Oops, 2 replys at the same time. MD, which tree version are you refering to as more acceptable to work on?

The idea is there, but your type treatment is weak on all of them. Try out some different fonts, and graphic positions. Play around with it for a bit. Check out some other logos for inspiration at http://logopond.com/

Thanks!

I too think that the type isn't working too well in any of the logos. "Loose kerning is hard to swallow". Out of the two fonts I think the last one works best.

I don't think the tree isn't stereotypical enough. A slimmer stem and more leaves? If you don't go for a tree, watch out for being associated with weed. My brain plays a trick on me and makes it Weedsiki when I look at the last logo. Could be just me though. (in case of any doubt; I don't smoke weed.)

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take that into consideration and I'll look deeper at the Type palette from now on and post the aftermatch here. Cool site btw.

Ok, I have 2 more versions, what do you think? I've added something I came up with, Im not sure wether or not is going to be approved, but it'll stick for now.

I agree. Although, I do like the fern logo. Its the font you're using that is throwing off the logos.

Definately the font on that first logo that is blowng the design. A lightweight understated sans serif would probably be your best way to go on that. I like your type treatment more on the more recent examples. But your first logo of the tree, or plant or whatever it was was better, especially the inverted one. I like where that was going, (without a different font of course) Good Luck.

Is there anything hidden in these designs like the arrow in the FedEx logo?

I think it would be a good idea to pursue this action. Perhaps an "S" and an "W" within the tree design?

Nice suggestions everyone. I've done my best to get the tracking perfect in the last 2 examples of my last post, but its hard to come up with something like FedEx really. And I definetely dont want to associate seedwiki with weed lol. My friend just told me they live near Berkeley which is supposed to be known for its weeding consuming population.

It probably evokes weedism a little bit, but heres a new version of the fern:

Im getting trouble finding the appropriate font. Im thinking about using the one from my last 2 examples.

The new direction reminds me the most of the business your trying to represent.

Thank you for the suggestion. I showed it to the client and he said he didn't liked the second one too much.

EDIT: I thought about doing a white stroke around all the second image but Im not sure if it's such a good idea. The word will then stop being more distinctive.
