Hello,
I would appreciate any feedback on this logo I am designing for a company. The company has 2 different aspects. The first aspect is a small store that sells Stationary, Arts & Crafts, and Gifts (B2C). The second is that they sell Office Supplies via cataloge to other businesses(B2B). So our job was to design a logo that could bring all aspects together. The name of the company is "Papyrus Rothe". Papyrus as in the paper from Egypt and Rothe is the last name of the owners of the company. We explored many different options. We finally decided on this version. Naturally most people associate Papyrus with the Egyptians so we thought it was important for the recognition, to make this connection. We decided it was better to seperate the B2C and B2B areas with simply another color. A burgundy for B2C and a Grey Blue for B2B. It is a german company. The word "Schreibwäre" means Stationary, and the word ""Bürofachhandel" means Office Supply Distributor.
As for the symbol, we exlored pyramids, papyrus plants, papyrus rolls etc. We discovered that Pharaos had a monopoly on all papyrus. Some translations of the word Papyrus mean "In the possesion of the Pharao".
Anyways. I would appreciate any feedback, positive or negative. We have to present the logo to the customers in 3 days.

Thanks,
Elton

I think it's a really nice logo, I much prefer the Blue and Gold to the Red and Gold and I would probably add only a small amount of letter spacing between the P-a-p-y-r-u-s R-o-t-h-e.

Good Job

Nice use of the Sphinx.

Definately the Blue and gold - makes the Sphinx punch out more.

Yeah. I like the Greyblue with the gold too. I have to, however, have the logo in 2 different formats (colors) to seperate the B2B from the B2C. I have the 2 versions, 4 in total, 2 for use on white backgrounds and the other 2, 1 for use on a burgundy background, and the last for use on a greyblue background.

The "deox-blood red" works too, maybe a couple of shades deeper though.

Sounds interesting.. If only I knew what Deox-blood red was? Can you convert that into CMYK (80%-40%-0%-7% etc.). I can then check and see how it looks.

Andi and SG: He's using both ;)

OT: I love the logo, but I think the text could do better with an other solution, simply because "papyrus" is a longer word than "Rothe".

what do you mean another solution? You mean work something out in which the Pharao is centered? Perhaps make the Papyrus word wider or the ROthe less wide? If so I dont know if that would work better. It is closer as it is to the Golden Cut (rule of thirds) principle, which in my opinion gives the logo more character than if it appeared completely centered.

Kant,

I agree. It's balanced, but the asymmetry gives it a bit more visual interest.

:) that's what I call the regal red you have there. It's similar to the colour of Deoxygenated blood...

I was suggesting you make your red a few shades deeper so that the Sphinx punches out more.

Incidentally, it is the red I've used on my identity.;)

Ok thanks. I will try it out and see how it looks with a deeper red.

Thank god you didn't use "Papyrus" for your font. *BARF*

Looks great, excellent mark. Only quibble I've got is there seems to be a smidgeon of extra space between the R and the U.

Then how about placing the line under elsewise? It could be it doing 'it'. Sorry, bad formulation, little time. Anyway, when I block out that line, it's great. Could be because it's so close to centered, yet not. Or that the red and blue backgrounds don't seem to be logically placed.

Hi Kant22. Really classy concept. It almost feels like a logo for a high class hotel. That's not a critisim by the way. I really like the colours in the top one but the face stands out a bit better in the ones with the white backgrounds. I think the eye looks a bit like an 'eye patch' in the slate blue & gold one. I wonder if there is a way of injecting a bit more detail into the eye without affecting the simple highlight/shadow style of the image if you were to go with that colour scheme. I do think it is a really nice logo.
Cheers.

My thoughts exactly. Classy logo you got there. I'd buy their stationery. They look polished and dependable.

Thanks for everyones nice comments. After alot of attempts, I was finally happy with the end product. Naturally if the customer excepts the logo, there will be a little fine tuning to improve the logo slightly. I appreciate the feedback.
