I'm afraid you can't. I had a problem with this recently. Looks like the best thing to do at the moment is work on CS.

May be soon they will have a plug-in that will allow this, it makes no sense.

that really does make zero sense, and is going to make taking over this project even more difficult. Thanks everyone!

The .inx file wouldn't work? Why not? We saved a InDesign CS2 file down to version 2 at work (saed it as .inx and then opened it in a version of CS we had and saved it down to 2.0 from there.)

Do you get an error, or the file won't open, or what?

Go to Adobe's website and download the patch that will take care of the problem. I save down from CS2 to CS frequently. Now you CAN'T save back to Indy v2...no way no how.

Before our printer upgraded to CS2 I had to supply him with INX files. Create your file as normal. Preflight/Package your file to be sent to the printer. Open the Packaged INDD file and choose File > Export, and set it for InDesign Interchange. Save the Interchange file into your Package directory, no need to repackage since the INX file points to all the same files as your INDD.

If that doesn't work, it is something wrong with your system/method.

Its still not working, going to try and look for that patch...

Ok, the patch worked. Shouldn't that be an auto update or something? Thanks everyone!

Yep, I think it is...you might check your Indy prefs on both CS and CS2 and and see if auto update is checked. Personally, I don't like it to update automatically, but for it to tell me that there are updates and I install at my leisure (what ever that is).

was that a patch for CS or CS2?
I had to do some design work on a PC equipped with CS2 and then take back to CS on a Mac and had some troubles and don't remember what the end result was. I am sure i figured it out since it already went to print from the Mac though.

From what I remember we got it to work by saving it out od CS2 and then opening it in CS and saving down. But you have to have CS2 and CS ...

If I recall, you need to patch CS to support the .inx format. Might not
hurt to update both CS and CS2. I haven't had any issues, FWIW.
