Illustrator not letting me resize?

I don't know why or what happened between the last time I worked in Illy and this time, but it won't let me just grab a corner and resize anything this time. I can do it with the pull-down menus, but that sucks, so much of this is eyeballing and would be faster the usual way.

It doesnt matter which arrow I am in, but I know it normally creates a sort of "box" that I can resize the item with, and I am not getting that. Not with text or images.

Any ideas?

Go under view and make sure your bounding box is showing.
