Hi

I want to create a series of informational guides consisting of both text and graphics that will be 2-4 pages each at 8.5x11. They will be distributed as PDFs.

I am going to work up the content fora sample in (gasp) Word or Publisher of a basic layout and would like the assistance of a desk top publisher wiz to take the content to visually improve the look and feel.

I would like to be able to get a layout for one guide and apply that layout to multiple guides but are graphic designers going to balk at using Publisher?? I know you would probably want to use InDesign or another~real~program.

Suggestions on how to create a template or something I can work with in publisher?

thanks!

Hi expresso, Welcome to the forum. I think you are going to have a pretty hard time finding somebody to work in publisher for you. It's just an absolutely horrible program. Pick up a copy of Illustrator. It will do all you need for your project. It's not that expensive for just the one program and it will save you all kinds of problems down the road. This is one of those times when it's better to spend a bit now because it will pay off later. /emoticons/cool.gif

If you were my client, I wouldn't mind getting the mock layout in Word. My main concerns would be:
1) I need to be able to easily copy and paste the copy/text from your mock layout into my 'real' program.
2) I will need the original digital images, if you have them, sent to me separately (not embedded within Word).

From what I understand, what you want is a visual representation of the layout you have in mind, one that you can easily email to your designer so you won't have to do a lot of verbal explaining. For that purpose, I think Word would be ok. :)

That's not really what he wants ylaenna. He wants to rough it out in word then have you make it pretty in Publisher. (ugh) Then you would give it back to him and he would use yours as kind of a template to make a bunch of others. At least that's what I got out of it. /emoticons/cool.gif

Thanks for your suggestions....kind of what I expected. Somehow this is less of an Illustrator project than an InDesign one I would imagine since the report will be text intensive and needs tobeprinter friendly (not a lot of emphasis on color but rather the professional layout and typography)

Guess I need to work up a sample to better explain what I need...hope to have something in a week.

It's multipage too, Kool.
Illustrator doesn't make multipage pdfs without Acrobat.
I don't know Publisher. Does it create multipage pdfs?
What kind of 'printer friendly' are you talking about Expresso? People's office printers or a print vendor who may need to print your guides on a press?

By printer friendly, I mean the customer's inkjet or laser printer when they print out a copy.

I wouldn't touch this job with Publisher

It's the Publisher to pdf thing that sucks here.

Expresso, you aren't by any chance related to the guy in the Adobe forums that expects all office desktop comps and printers all over the world to be able to open all pdf docs and print them correctly are you? What a funny thread that was over there.
