I'm having an issue with a clipping path that I made in Photoshop and imported into Illustrator. The outer path comes across fine but there are segments within the photo that were cropped out in Photoshop that are not appearing as being cropped out in Illustrator. To simplify, if it was a donut that I close croppped, the outside ring is cropped fine but the inner hole is not cropped once I import it. Has anyone run into this issue and if so found a solution?

Help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Curtis

You need to select both paths in illustrator then go to
Object>Compound Path>Make
Then use the compound path as a mask.

The problem is when i import the path from Photoshop into Illustrator the inner sections are missing so I can't select them to make them a compound path, unless you can make the compound path in Photoshop.

?

In photoshop, is the path you are exporting saved as a work path or a clipping path?
Try saving it as a work path...

Darn it, you know, I'm thinking you have to do this separately. Bring the work path into Illustrator and place it over the place image and create a mask. I don't think you can bring in multiple clipping paths. Could be wrong.

Its saved as a clipping path. I ended up just using an alpha channel but its ticking me off that I can't figure it out, I'm sure that I've done it before. Thanks for the help though.

Alpha channel would have been the way I would have done it also. But I think you're right. There should be a way...

are you sure the inner part is a closed path?

i agree that done this in illustrator is a better choice.

I think it may have to do with your process. ...let me find something...
http://www.heathrowe.com/tuts/knockout.asp?knockout=clippath

notice what they said in the mid to lower part of the tutorial. That is where you are probably getting hung up. You probably need to cut and paste the inside path onto the same path layer as the outside path. Once you join this and the path mode is correct, you should be good to go. Just doble check your process.

btw if you are still having problems there is another tool issue but see if this helps you first.
