In Photoshop 8.0 CS can you make vector designs for stickers and clothing? Im learning in Illustrator right now, and its pretty difficult for me. I'm still going to keep learning in it, but I need to start making designs for an up coming event, and I know photoshop a lot better. I just didn't know if you can make vector designs in it like Illustrator where everything you do is already vectorized.

If you can please tell me how to do so. Like what setting I need to do.
I work on a MAC usually.

Thanks guys!

You can use the pen tool in photoshop to get vector images, but if you save the file as a Tiff or jpg or something, you will loose the vector....you have to keep the .PSD file or save it as a .EPS But im not sure why you would rather use the pen tool in photoshop over illustrator, its the same tool in both programs with the same concept, and illustrator is much easier to do it in :)

edit: and you wont get that smooth edge you can get in illustrator with photoshop, and you must also use 300dpi if your working in print ( illustrator defaults to 300dpi, Photoshop defaults to 72, so u gotta change that )

I think my problem is that Illustrator is so overwelming(sp) because of all the options. The reason Im better in photoshop is that Im used to the way everything works and where everything is placed. I guess Im just being over anxious to know the program already after 2 days of working in it. For example, I was trying to somthing as simple as erase and edge on a image and would go over itdraw the line and nothing would happen. I finally got it to erase but it didn't do it as easy as the one in photoshop. Thats the types of little trouble I'm having. I just find photoshops tools are much easier for the beginner. But I guess thats what learning is all about...

Thanks Zartan!

ps. Is text and shapes vectorized in photshop also?

take some tutorials for illustrator. try to find a few that roughly resemble what your client will need, that way you'll learn enough to get by in illustrator if you have to - and if you think you might, then you should be prepared.

there are some great tutorial sites posted in the resources section of this forum => try the 'ultimate resource thread', or try adobe.

luck!

I posted in your other thread that it sounds like you're trying to use Illustrator to edit raster images/photos. After reading this thread, I'm more certain that's the root of your frustration.

Photoshop and Illustrator are not interchangeable. Photoshop is used mainly for raster artwork and Illustrator is used mainly for vector artwork. The eraser and pen/brush tools in Illustrator work on vector objects, not on raster images that you imported into the program.

You should definitely read the explanation of raster vs. vector in the Resources section. After that, I'm sure you'll have a firmer grasp of Illustrator as a program. Good luck!
