Only about 2 weeks after launching my company's new website we are already coming up #1 under our chosen search times... and unlike Tara Ried it's 100% natural

That's much better, Mynock. :)

And that's much better too, Colonol. :) You really had me confused, because I did think you meant times, and that there was some new secret to search engine optimization that I didn't know about.

1. the drunk irish in me meant nothing more than a little trash talk with my last post
2. i know nothing of these cage fights you speak of

3. I figured out the search terms I wanted us to come up under, did a few months of research on how to get good ranking beyond just using meta tags etc and then convinced my boss to let me redo our whole website... (obviously more detailed than that, but if I told you I'd have to kill you)

Nice job! My company is just getting into SEO and I'm spearheading the process.

Ha! When I told our programmer about it and how we wanted better natural ratings he said, "Search engine opti-what-now???" Argh!! :)

Did you use CSS-style navigation and throw footer links at the bottom of every page. My company is paying an SEO firm to help us out with this, and I've been implimenting their recommendations.

i did the whole site with css & xhtml. We decided that we didn't want to pay anyone to get good rankings, I met with a few SEO firms but they all seamed like quacks to me. I just coded the site by hand, wrote content relavent to what we wanted to be searched under, of course did the tags etc. We are lucky because 99.9% of the business we get is in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

My next step is to do a little viral marketing to keep our rank

umm whats the site and what the search terms? if its a site about "green trees with rainbow roots" and your search "green tree rainbow" well you gonna be number one....lol

like my site geekscore.com if you search for "geekscore".....DOH its #1 but if you search for "geek score" its not even on the first page

for good tips check out matt cutts (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/) blog :)

If I search "Media Mainline" (my company), I monopolize the entire first two pages of links. However, if I search for "Mainline Media", I don't show up until the second page, because of the Philadelphia based Web Design Company of that name, in that order.

Of course, if I search for "mediamainline", I get 100 pages of relevent links - as many as Google will display.

we do service supplies and sales for office hardware (printer, copier, fax) in Minnesota (mainly the Minneapolis / St. Paul area) we're located in eagan. We are an HP business partner and also authorized service providers for Xerox, Lexmark, Brother, Ricoh, Samsung, etc.

http://www.iotsolutions.com

the search terms we wanted to come up under are for people searching for local hardware, service and supplies. and we are #1 in a lot of them and in the top 5 in all of them.

It's a tough market because so many companies like ours are paying for sponosored searches, paying actual SEO companies to do it for them and doing the pay per click stuff... I honestly thought we'd be lucky to break onto the firsts page, but it just goes to show that hard work does pay off.

Ah, well, istockphoto has a set up where members can challenge each other to a "photoshop off" in the "steel cage" where one person posts and they share the images they used to create the piece and then the other person creates a new image using parts of the old image with new parts they add themselves. It goes for 5 rounds and is very fun to watch. I've not participated in one myself yet, (unless you count mine and mynock's little gun battle in the last friday ps party). There's a colonel character that consistently wipes the floor with the other people there, just thought it might have been you.

maybe we should have our own version of the steel cage, but not as hardcore, more a fluffy shoe box if you will.
