I'm working in Illustrator CS2 and I'm having an issue with my bounding box. When I go to resize JUST the bounding box, it resizes the text along with it, when all I really want to do is adjust the bounding box size.
I know there's a setting because I've adjusted it on my home version but that was so long ago, I've forgotten.
Any ideas?

I am not sure I understand, you can;t resize the bounding box by clicking and dragging node corner(hold shift for proportionately)?
Are they visible? ( View/show bounding box)
Are you clicking on it and its just not resizeing? Copy and paste into a new layer, or new document for that matter. You might even be on the wrong layer (examine your layers pallete, see if anything is locked etc).

I've turned the bounding box on so I see the nodes. When I resize the box, it resizes the text as well.
I'm not working with layers so everything is ok there.

yeah it does that, if you want a separte box (border) you have to draw it.
If you want a designated sized text box, use text tool click and drag to desired size on artboard, then you will have empty box but can then begin typing.
Don't type and THEN resize, SIZE then type. Get it?

It's because of your text (probably an obvious statement, but let me explain).
If you simply click and type, your text will do exactly as you've stated above. However, if you create a text box and type, it will allow you to resize the text box without resizing the text.
I hope that helps.

Thanks, looks like it was how my text was set up.
If I drew a text box with my text tool and typed, I was able to resize the bounding box without it affecting the text.
Right now my text was "click and type", so of course when I go to resize the box, it resizes the text too.

So in that case, is there any way to fit the bounding box to the text without manually retyping or resizing the text box?

I'm a little confused by what you're asking. Are you saying that within a text box (not click and type) you want that box to automatically resize to match the size of your actual text content?

Best metheod would be to copy from one pasting to the other. I dont know another way.
Clicked text, and container (or 'Area) text. If you use the 'A' arrow on container text (not the container) you can transform the text within as well. Wish there was an easy way to convert AI container to Clicked text, and vice versa (there is in CorelDraw).

Nice tip!

Select the text with your text tool, Cut to Clipboard, Draw a bounding box with your Text Tool, then Paste from Clipboard.
