how to over come the 16000 frame limit in flash? (help needed asap)

the project that i'm working on in flash mx has become longer than 16000 frames.

i've heard that the best thing to do is to split the project into several parts and then put them together as a final product......how do i go about doing this?

i know it's sunday but if i can get any help i'd be very thankfull cos my deadline is tomorrow!!

does the 16000 frame limit include different scenes?

if it does, could you not put a code in the end of the 1st movie to 'go to and play' a second movie?

'kay. just off the top of my head, could you not break your movie into smaller movies. then, make one larger movie and put 'place holders' in, naming them, and use the 'load movie' action. then, the 'empty' movie will act as a projector of sorts, just holding the actions of what movie to to play and when...

does that make ANY sense to you? i know how to do it, but not how to explain it.

damn damn damn. it can totally be done though.

it's all about empty symbols, naming them, putting the load movie actions inside the symbol pointing to your other movie...then when THAT movie is done, pointing back to the 'main movie', but the second movie's 'empty' symbol that points to the second movie...etc etc etc.

ok i think i got what you were trying to explain but i can't find the right 'load movie action'.....and do i have to import the movies into the library?

and by 'pointing' do you mean tween movement?

no, you don't have to import the movies. you can create an empty symbol, and IN that symbol place the action. i apologise, i'm unsure as to whether it's 'load movie' or tell target ... damn. i DO know that you've got to be sure to name all of your instances ... i really hope i'm not leading you down the wrong path here, as i know you're on a schedule.

I've done this before, but it was around 2 years ago...so i'm a bit rusty. i really can't tell you how to do it EXACTLY without doing it myself, and i'm going to be leaving very shortly...

sorry sister! i hope that little bit of info helps, but i really can't tell you how to do it definatively - i don't want to misrepresent and have you think i know exactly what needs to be done. i'd have to play with it more...

oh, and by pointing, i meant playing an external swf from your main file. i'm not explaining this very well. damn. if you name a movie 'blue' (for argument's sake), then in your main movie, have the appropriate action saying 'go and play blue' (again, i forget the appropriate action), the external movie (blue) will be played as though it was in the main movie. i hope that explains it a bit better.

yeah no one is going to wait to have a 1600 frame movie load.....

here is how i do it.... corect me if I am wrong.... I have a main basic page (basically my navigation with a emply movie clip on top of the whole thing

the movie clip is named web_mc

then on each button I put this as the action of the button

on (press) {
web_mc.loadMovie('web.swf');
}

this was the web portion of my portfolio so its tell it to load web.swf (my web portfolio)

all this stuff in the movie clip will show thru to the main swf file...so your navigation will always be there etc.... if you go to my site hirethisdesinger.com you will see some picture actually sit on top of my instant time area on the bottom right side....

I hope that helps....

I also put a preloader on each swf file so show the viewer something is happening...

One blank movie clip on the first swf file and each page loads itself in the blank movie clip (web_mc)

ok i think you'll both kill me for this but i forgot to mention that this isn't for a site but some press conference!......i've been told (like you guys said too) to make the moviclips and then load them in one timeline one after the other.....is that right? and as i'm totally retarted at this stuff how do i make a movie clip?

you should be turning images/ anything that you import or make into either a movie clip, button or graphic

to have external swf files load it doesnt have to be a site.....

its like this.... would make a website into one graphic?? no...for one each image needs to be optimized differently at different compressions.....

plus in each swf file you just loading the 'difference' in the pages not the whole page that in itself makes the loading time drop....

also go into your library in flash click the 'I' and there is another way to compress the graphic to save loading time.....

my swf files load a bit slow and they are 32kb each.....

hey you two thanks alot for the help you gave me...unfortunately the movieclip stuff became too complicated for me and so i ended up shortening the whole presentation to make it enter within the 16000 limit.....shame but it was to hard to resolve in any other way 9 hours before the deadline.

if you plan on ever doing a flash site you need to learn it...

it will take then only a couple minute to load the presentation hopefully your audience is not like me (ADHD)

yeah i really do have to start learning some actionscripts etc but i'm so sick of flash after having working on it for the last 3 weeks (week days and weekends) that i don't want to even open that program for the next 6 months.

oh and the clients were very impressed by the end result and that's all that counts (other than them paying of course!). the press conference is tomorrow morning, we'll see how that goes.
