err... FRUSTRATED!

Got a new mac mini last week and loaded the Adobe CS2 suite from CDs. However, I cannot get PS to load/start. All of the other programs in the suite work fine and I know that the disks in the suite work fine.

I double click the icon, the splash screen starts doin' its thang only to barf and bomb when it gets to "building TWAIN menu items." I've uninstalled and reinstalled PS from the CDs about a 1/2 dozen times, each time removing the PS related stuff in the Library folder to be sure that there aren't any dangling participles.

Any ideas? I've been to the Adobe forums and there isn't a specific answer there.

Thanks much!

Robin

Maybe you don't have enough RAM. That would be a big issue. Me, the only reason I can't install photoshop on my '98 computer is because it doesn't have a DVD drive >_<

Have you tried repairing permissions on the mini? Disk Utility (it's in the Applications>Utilities folder).

Also, if it's crashing at the TWAIN menu items, have you tried doing a custom install of Photoshop that doesn't include that? Unless you have a scanner hooked up, you wouldn't need TWAIN stuff.

Also, you might want to try starting Photoshop but resetting the preferences before it launches. It could be there's something funky from one of the earlier installs and there's a holdover from one of the earlier preference files. Hold down Command-Option-Shift while launching Photoshop and see if that helps.

Is the mini an Intel mini? I've heard of different problems with different programs from the CS2 suite and the new Intel macs. You might want to try a Google search on that, rather than in the Adobe forums.

Thanks so much for your replies.

It's a mini with a gig of RAM and it's a Power PC, not an Intel. I will try starting with those keys held down and let you know how it goes. I do have a scanner and will be needing to use it, so that's a fire I'll have to deal with at some point, too.

Just an update... fixed the problem!

Don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I did a search for other TWAIN files/folders on the system and sure enough, there was some old EPSON twain drivers in some random library folder. Deleted the whole folder and voile! PS loaded up smooth as silk!

Thanks again for you help! 8^D
